Hubcaps fall off?

My 240Z has the stock hubcaps. I think they look cool and want to keep them on the car, at least for now. Besides, I really don't have the cash for custom wheels. However, I heard the problem with them is they fall off readily. Is this so? And is there a way from avoiding this from happening?

I agree with you 100% about keeping the original hubcaps and they would come off if not in good condition. I would check the condition of the grippers (tines?). Bend any back into shape that need it. I do not know if locks for these things are available.

If you're only worried abot them not falling off and dont want to taint the appearance of them too much, then get yourself a packet of clear plastic cable ties (zip ties) put two on each hubcap, obviously you want them long enough to feed through the holes in the wheel behind it. Keep the rest of the pack in the car should you have to replace some if a tyre blows or something.

I only think the hubcaps would fall off if you have the really early hubcaps with only 17 'gripper' tabs on the back of the hubcap, instead of 40 on the later 1970 ones and then only if you were cornering pretty hard.

Having said that, with the price of replacing the 'd' stlye caps reaching ridiculous levels ( I know as I've only recently managed to buy some), it is not something you want to leave to chance.
