Hi all,

I just installed a Crane ignition system (optical pickup and coil).

Problem is the tach now doesn't work. The two wires from the tach are now tied together (per Cranes instructions).

Has anyone installed this system before and if so, how did you deal with the tach issue?

I'm kinda wondering how they expect the tach to work if the wires are connected together.....:cross-eye

One of the wires should be to the - side of the coil so the tach gets a signal or it won't work at all.... unless they have it wired into the Crane ignition that is getting it's signal form the dizzy somewhere else....

FWIW, the race car I have, the PO connected the tach to the MSD ignition which according to MSD and everyone else wouldn't signal the tach, but oddly, it worked just fine.:ermm:

Usually w/ my experience w/ crane systems, you need to buy a tach adaptor, one should be available for view at the crane website, or even w/ the paper work that should have come w/ your ignition.

my 2cents

Dave.

MSD says it requires a tach adapter as well.... don't ask me how it's wired up cuz the car is in pieces...

Just for the heck of it, you could try a jumper wire to the - side of the coil and see if it works that way.:ermm:

My tach would jump all over the place when I installed a crane XR 3000 along with the PS92 coil in my '72. I had to pull the tach out and clip the white pick up wire on the back of the tach. It is originally looped through twice, but if you loop it through once it will work again.

I have the XR3000 with the PS91 coil. My wiring diagram shows a B/W wire and G/W wire going to dist and ballast from the tach.

Don't know how well you can see the attached but here it is.
