December 31, 200321 yr comment_62389 be thankful to old pops,My dad does nothing with cars, knows nothing, and thinks that I should not be doing anything with them. It is a constant battle to own a project car. I wish my dad was into them... December 31, 200321 yr comment_62399 Sounds like my dad used to be. You couldn't pay him to open the hood. He was terrified of being connected with anything involving manual labor. He thought manual labor would rocket him into poverty. Fortunately he was successful in other areas. I, unfortunately or fortunately, was the opposite and made a living doing mainly manual labor and opening my own hood. Poor old dad could never understand why I didn't want to be a corporate lawyer. I understand now that he only wanted me to have an even better life(from his perspective) than he had. Victor. December 31, 200321 yr comment_62412 Thanks Dad, Because you taught me to rebuild DCOE carbs at 8yrs old, and took me to Road Atlanta at 9yrs old, and taught me to drive in your 1971 240Z.....I will forever be a Z nut.....all the times you asked me to crawl under the car or hand you a wrench, I thank you. Now YOU call ME for advice and help with your cars....it is kind of humorous. My wife does not thank you, for old cars is not the only hobby you passed on to me, gun collecting is moore expensive than the old cars...Thanks Dad. January 1, 200421 yr comment_62512 I got it from Dad too. When I was little my dad had a lime Green 1972 240Z. Got hard up for money and sold it. I was 10 at the time. 4 years down the road I open up the news paper. See an Ad for a 1971 240Z for S300. pops goes to the house turns out it's the same guy he sold the lime Green 72 Z too. They had a long convo. Shows me the Zed for sale. Rust Free orange 1971 240-Z in the garage. From then history was made. I currently own 3 1971 240Z's along with a 1970. -Brandon Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9007-all-cuz-my-dad/#findComment-62512 Share on other sites

January 15, 200421 yr comment_64516 This is not about my Z but it is a 'Dad and Datsun' story. In 1980, just before Chrismas, I came across the 1964 L320 pickup that I still own to this day. I had spent all of my money on Christmas shopping and even though the PO of the truck only wanted $100 for the truck, I just didn't have it. My dad loaned me the money. The truck actually ran at that point except for some electrical gremlins. I tinkered with it for a couple of days and had it driveable by New Years Day (1981). By the middle of January I had reached the point where I could pay him back. I drove the truck over to my parents' house. My dad did not understand why I liked the truck or Datsuns in general. When I offered to pay him back the $100 he said, "Keep your money, just think of it as a Christmas present". He passed away of a stroke on January 25, 1981. That truck was the last thing he ever gave me. That is why I'll never sell it. January 16, 200421 yr comment_64554 Thanks to my dad as well. When I was 9 or 10 years old he took me to see the RAC rally in England. After seeing a lot of boring cars being well driven I was impressived by the flat out & sideways approach of the 240Z. A real sports car being driven by brave drivers. At 12 years old why father showed me how to drive in my moms car. At 13 he gave me a half share in a Ford A, as long as I did more than half of the work. I got to all the dirty jobs ! But my father showed me the insides of gearboxes, engines & stuff. Also how to make custom wiring looms, hand paint chassis to concours standard, etc, etc. At 14 he let me loose at Mallory Park ( our local road circuit ) in his 2,2s 911. & when I didn´t bash it we went there 2 or 3 times a month. Even arranged for a mate of his called John Morrison, who raced in British Supertouring cars & had taken part at the Le Mans 24 hrs, to show me the finer points of driver control. My dad didn´t even get mad when I started to set faster times than him. At 15 he let me drive his 6 1/2 litre Bentley on the road on a trip to France & I took the driving seat when the police escorted round the full Le Mans Circuit. When other Bentleys overtook the Police escorts he let me take part in the fun. He didn´t even say anything seeing his Bentley pulling 120 MPH down the Mulsanne straight !At 17 he bought we a Citroen 2CV van as my first car, I suppose that he didn´t want me to become another accident statistic. He helped me out when I started racing Formula Fords, later on helped with my Ford Escort rally car. He even pulled a few favours & introduced me to Keith Duckworth ( half of Cosworth ) so that I could get a couple of BDG rally engines cheap. After my rallying days we started buying old race cars that didn´t work right, we fixed them together, raced them successfully & then sold them at a profit so as to pay for the next project. Now everything has changed & he ´phones me for advise on things. Yesterday he ´phoned me saying that he had followed my advise & bought a new 350Z ! Strangely in exactly the same colour combination as my 260Z made 28 years earlier. & he´s coming to see me in it next month driving some 2450 mile round trip. Not bad for a 77 year old dad. Thanks Dad for everything. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9007-all-cuz-my-dad/#findComment-64554 Share on other sites

March 24, 200421 yr comment_74109 Ya, I own when i was 10 my dad bought me a 1964 mustang convertable, not in the best shape, but got me into it. i eventually paid him back and today im 16 and it is the fastest and best car my family owns. just recently my friend bought a 1972 Z and i helped work on it with him for a couple of weekends. Now i am desiring a Z. My dad owns a Z as well, but im not allowed near it, because it is a souped up car...we're not sure which is faster but we always joke around.
