350z rims on a early z

In Australia as an insurance assessor and Z card horder I have been horrified at the motly lot of wheel combinations I have found on the various Z cars I have rescued from New South Wales. A Mark 2 had four stud 1984 300Z wheels (pic enclosed) which looked ok but when I transfered the wheels to a second car just to hold the front end up, I could not move the car as the wheels were locked up on the front struts, on further examination I found I had left the spacer plates!! behind on the 82 wrecker. To think this car was hacked around Sydney in traffic in this condition, let me tell you what the coroner would say at an inquest when the prosecuter told him that 300 zx wheels were swapped to another model car and held on by 5 thread turns of the wheel nuts. If you were still alive and anyone else was injured you would probably go to jail. Read non disclosure clauses on your insurance policy and you might get a shock. If you fit non standard wheels in Australia you have to notify and disclose the type but the conversion has to be legal and be sound engineering. Fitting a ZX wheel with spacers leaves too little thread remaining to safely hold the wheel on under collision conditions.

Dunno about rest of the world, there is a website showing 300zx wheels in four or five stud, I think 83/84 300zx non turbo had four lug. You say punch out the short studs and punch in longer studs and then run spacers. You can do whatever you like proving no one finds out, and no one would know until you had an accident involving injury. In fact know one knows nuttin until there is a catastrophe and these days we have Laywers from USA saying no settelement no payment required, they defend for free so we are most highly litagious country outside of California.

I dont even like the 300 zx wheel with a tyre it weighs over 15 pounds and the idea is low unsprung weight so I use the wonderful SImmons wheels pictured left on my restored classic zed, they are called OM16's and weigh in at 11 pounds with rubber attached and they run with no wheel shimmy. I understand we even export these wheels to USA . :beard:

The question had to do with 350Z 5 lug wheels. The hybrid Z write up does not mention splining the new holes. Seems kind of Mickey Mouse to me as do spacers. There are plenty of rims that will properly fit the four lug pattern and clear everything without spacers.
