smog buster

You could also install a Catalictic Converter on your exhaust. First you should check with your state's smog requirements. In some states a 30 year old vehicle is smog exempt.

Or did I missunderstand you and you are trying to reduce / remove smog equipment currently on your car?

Thank you for your advice.

Yes, you are right. Now I am tring to take off all

air pollution cotrol system ( air pump, vacuum control valve, check valve and anti backfire). My car is 71' made 72'model 240Z but in

Japanese standard there is not those parts. When I was in Canada I had 74' 260Z but this car also all took off.

In Nevada before 67'car only not necessary for smog check.

As you said if I can't reduce pollution by my method, I need to put cataliser on middle of muffler.

On my 73 with 72 carbs I removed everything that had to do with smog. I did leave the PCV valve and the hose that goes from the top of the valve cover to the air intake. Go to the Gallery and check out some of the other members rides. You can get a pretty good idea of what you can get rid of. Most of it probably doesn't work anyway.

Like Nevada, Arizona requires all cars built '67 & later to pass emissions.

Our "new" 260Z failed emissions, which really came as no surprise. Has anyone modified the air pollution control system on a 260 & still got it to pass emissions? I am in the market for round top carbs to replace the flat tops, but am concerned about what to do with all the hoses, etc if I replace the carbs & breather cover.

thanks in advance!

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that Nevada (anything goes state) and Arizona (republican strong hold in the west) has more strict emissions requirements than California (liberal stronghold in the west) ???:stupid:

Ed, where can I see your engine in your gallery?

Sorry, My engine is in pieces right now (It's getting rebuilt). I basically removed what I could since I didn't have to worry about emissions back in California.

Question, how often do you have to take an emissions test, every year?

Thank you for advice you guys.

I made it! I took air pump and EGR

then over hall carb. change point and

adjust fire timing then change spark plug

to NGK BPR7ES-11.

Then adjust bottom of each SU so finaly I could

pass emission test.

result was HC =439 CO=1.84% (700rpm)

For 260Z carb is flat top type but this carb is

quite tough to adjust.

Anyway I recomend take air pump and EGR.

I have extra SU twin carb round shape but this is for

roadstar SP (1500cc) not suite for 260Z.

MariaAZ should change carb to 240Z type.

Better ask Ms.Chroe in West Z whether they have used.

Maria, you could remove the EGR, but it would be better to replace it with a new one, otherwise, I doubt you will ever get it to pass.

If the engine is in proper tune, you should be able to get it to pass without too much trouble. But, you'll have to make sure everything is in working order (smog pump, EGR etc...), the carbs are tuned correctly and the ignition system is in top condition as well. If the HC levels are a bit too high, you could always try leaning out the carbs a bit just for the test. You could also try an electronic ignition or an upgraded ignition if the car already has electronic ignition.
