Hello,

I am seeking some help please.

First some background: I am restoring a 1971 Triumph TR6. The differential is shot and I was able to get hold of a 280zx manufactured in October of 1980 for free. I have taken all the rear suspension apart and so far I am going to use the differential out of the 280ZX and make the necessary adaptors to make it work in the TR6. I have access to a machine shop, so the manufacture of parts will be no problem. The TR6 has a independent rear suspension and so far, I see no problems as to making this all work.

HOWEVER, I have been doing research and so far I am very confused as to what differential I am looking at. From what I gather the 280ZX's came with R180's or R200's. The car I was able to get hold of is a straight drive car. How do I tell if what I have is really a 180 or a 200? It appears NOT to be a limited slip differential, but I am not sure.

Would somebody please point me in the right direction? If I have posted in the wrong forum, please forgive me and suggest a better venue to post my question.

Thanks, and I am very grateful to have this opportunity to ask my question...

Regards,

joe

Wow,

Thanks to all. I am impressed with this site - man, did I get some answers and in a timely way.

You guys are very lucky to have such a nice place to ask questions. I have visited many other automotive related websites and forums with no way near the response that I have found here.

Thanks very much. I am looking forward to getting the R200 in my TR6 and maybe in a not too distant future upgraing it with a LSD kit. However, for now, I'll stick to using it 'stock'.

Once again, thanks...

joe

So is this a r200. The owner said it came out of a 1976 280Z but I did not think that the r200 came in that car. Am I just mistaken on this? I was curious because Motorsport offers a LSD for a r180 up through '76 and a r200 from 77 on.

Thoughts?
