I own a Late '73 the born on date is 8-73 . She just turned 200K and is running great altho the engine and tranny were rebuilt about 100k miles back. Running great with early SUs and a 79zx Ignition. I am '64 and have been into cars since I was 16 and bought my first car, a 2 yr. old 52 chev . and a year later I bought a '32 three window Ford . I married my present wife 43 yrs ago and we have raised our 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls . oldest is our son '41 and youngest '35 . So far I am the oldest posting here, which dosent make me feel young thats for sure. I have wanted one of these cars since '70 when one of my co workers bought one, and it was love at first sight. I had to wait a while untill the kids were all grown and I could afford another hobby and had the time and place to keep it. Well I purchiced my '73 two yrs ago and have been mostly just driving it. It would hardly run when I bouhgt it but after a complete tune it runs like a watch. I was born and raised in Van Nuys Calif. suburb fo L A . I was withe the L.A. Fire Dept . for 22+ yrs. and retired in 1984 and we all moved to Portland Ore. and love it , the wet does get boring about this time of year. Back to the Z . I am in the process of replacing the floor on the passanger side and stripping out the interior and pulling the engine to detail the engine bay. Hope to have the car painted this summer. At present my plan is to get the z down to a rolling shell and have the inetrior and engine bay sanblasted , repair what is needed and installing a '82 280zx engine that is on a stand at present. It has been interesting reading the posts from all over world. I want to thank all for all the help you have given me in the past. I know V-8s but these little 6s are a horse of a different color. My best to all . Gary

In reply to Alfadog...

I think some 280Z's were imported new into NZ (I'm sure someone out there knows)...

... but most (like mine) were imported used from Japan in the late 80's/early 90's. Is this the last corner of the world where Z's are really cheap? looked at a running (road-worthy and driven daily)280Z for $400 NZ yesterday ... thats <$200US!!

Greetings all,

My name is Richard Gray and I am the proud owner of a '71 240z (silver w/black interior). I am currently unemployed and was in the hi-tech industry before I got tired of companies going out of business under my feet. I call Santa Cruz, CA my home and am happy to see other Z enthusiasts around town.

I think I first got interested in Z's when I got to ride in my uncle's 240z back in the early 70's. He had a nice '70 240 that was very close to what I have now. The only difference was he had a front air dam and rear louvres. He used to live in Las Vegas (musician back in the early days of the strip) and told me stories of his 100+ mph travels across the desert. He was most impressed with the air dam at higher speeds keeping the car under better control.

Anyway, back in the days when I had extra money, I decided to purchase a new toy and came across a guy in Oregon who had decided to retire. Turns out, he owned a Nissan repair shop...how bad could his car be, right? After several emails, I hopped a plane to Oregon with a cashiers check in my pocket. I am happy to say that I had a REALLY great drive back to Santa Cruz from the Eugene area. The car is almost completely stock. When I have the time, I would like to do a frame up restore. Until that day, I enjoy driving Hwy 17 and the many mountain roads outside of town.

Hobbies include disc golf, fly fishing, kayacking, mt biking and driving fast. :-) I am not married (thank god), have a dog, cat, gecko and lots of fish.

Happy driving and keep the dirty side down...

Well it's my turn,

James Burns, almost 40 years old (arggg) and been in love with Z cars since my Dad brought home a new Ice Blue '77 280Z. Been hooked ever since. But I've always driven other cars and just wish about have a Z again. I'm a Safety Consultant for an insurance company and always drive around in company cars (currently a 2001 Dodge Stratus). Married, two grown kids, two grandkids. Live just north of Nashville, TN

So in 1999 I get the "opportunity" to buy this very yellow '77 to "refresh" It came with a '76 280 parts car. So I dive back into Z-Land. Well the "Yellow" Z is to eaten with rust so I just sell it for parts but keep the other parts car for it's manual tranny and rearend.

And then God shines down on me. I read this ad in the local small town paper -" 1973 Datsun 240 Z 38,000 actual miles - $4,500" Now I don't believe the mileage, but a local 240 is worth looking at. Come to find out the car is pretty clean, original, automatic (can't win 'em all), owned by two old ladies (sisters) from southern Oregon. No rust at all. The mileage is documented. Car runs great. I can't get my checkbook out fast enough.

Currently this fine 240Z is getting '72 SU carbs (replacing Weber DVGs), electronic ignition, now has a manual tranny and R200 rearend, and getting a new paint job and new seats. Should be on the road by Fall.

Good to be back in a Z ( if it's only in my garage right now)

Doehring,

Greetings from Tennessee,

You might find it interesting about the old ladies that I brought the 240 from. Their father was a factory race car driver for Gilmore Oil back in the '30s, so these gals were always "racer-babes". Hung out at all the big races and always drove hot cars. Although this car was not driven much, I get the feeling at least one of them "drove" the car. When I test drove it for the first time, this nearly 70 year old lady tells me "it drives real smooth right at 100 mph and needs to breath a little". She was right. Great selling point!

Ga'Day, James

In reply to Alfadog and RossT:

The 280 N/A were imported but the 280 turbos were not, there are a few 280 turbo here but they were probably either N/A to begin with and turbo'd later or specially imported.

Hello all,

My name is Nathan (Nate). I'm 22 and an Electronics Technician in the U. S. Coast Guard.:pirate:

www.uscg.mil

Z's i own: ..............none...............

Z's i want:.............yes, please............

I currently live in Orchard Park, NY, a town just outside of Buffalo. I do not like snow or cold weather:sick: being that I'm from Charleston, SC. The wicked twist to that is that I just got restationed here for yet another 4 years.:disappoin

I'm getting married Oct. 5th:D

Car's I've owned: 88 chevy Silverado 8' bed 305 traded for an 86 Toyota MR2 totaled (rolled 5 times):hurt:. 84 Monte Carlo SS couldve been a great car but it wasn't a real SS it was some dumb rednecks interpretation of how to make an SS from a LS and it took me a couple months to figure out and for the next 2 years i lived under the hood.:stupid: Learned alot about engine rebuilds:cross-eye. For one year i was the proud owner of an 86 Sentra w/120,000miles. Zero problems, ran like a top, Sold to a friend for what I paid for it And bought a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT V6...Because I couldn't justify $2000 more for a V6 Frontier:stupid: ...This is my last Domestic vehicle. I also now own a 97 Kawasaki Ninja 600.:devious: I did have a 72 1/2 Datsun 620 pickup that was given to me but when i got towed to the house and was able to inspect rust, missing pieces and what not, compared that to what it would cost and be worth in the end ...she got sent to the salvage yard.

Well that's me. Lookin for a Z.
