Hi guys and gals, my name is Jeff and I live in Ct. My log on sums up my zcar. I have always wanted one since my uncle had a brand new blue one in '73. I have been collecting things about these cars for years and finally last spring I was surprised by my girlfriend with my "dream z". She took me to an abandon building where in the parking lot sat a '71 240z with a cardboard for sale sign on it. The car "looked" great at night by the light of a near by street light. Recent paint, new tires, vintage kidney mag wheels and rear spoiler. I took down the VIN and proceeded to go online where I found a list of original owners with original purchase dates. To my amazement, my research found that the car was built the same year and month I was born. Needless to say I bought the car. It is a beautiful metalic red with black interior which my girl friend did an awesome job reconditioning after we had the seats recovered. These cars sound so nice with a header and a Pacesetter exhaust system which ours has. My question to anyone is this, some one transplanted a newer 4spd. trans with an S-shaped shifter. They modified the center console to make it fit. Will a 72-73 or 74 console fit the shifter better while also fitting the car? Thanks.

My name is Ernie Hiracheta and I'm from TX. I am 23 years old and a college student. My first car was a N/A 81' 280zx,

I was 16 and bought it for $500. I didn't really know too much about cars then, much less Zs. The car ran good when i got it, the exterior needed lots of help(heck it needed its own charity foundation), but the interior was nice and the a/c worked. The previous owner gave me a hanes manual with the car. Well I learned a little over the 2 years it ran.

My first job was replaceing the water pump. The satisfaction of completing this job successfully felt great. Then later on i replaced the fuel injectors on my own. Then i figured out i had a sports car cause my car went fast(well... to me then) and when i felt this rush i started reading up on Z's and that's all I have ever bought.

I caught Z fever.

2 weeks before I left for college I was leaving town and before I made it out

I heard a real loud clunk when i shifted to 5th. I got the car into a parking lot and my transmission was pouring(not leaking) fluid in the parking lot. ( i was always abusing that tranny on the backroad twisties, and peeling out in the high school parking lot. Ah........16 kinda wish i was there again)

Well i couldn't fix my Z, cause i quit my job in prep for college.

I ended up giving it to my uncle.

When I finished my first two years in school first thing i did was go out and buy another 280zx, this time with t-tops. My band was going on tour and I traded it for a guitar amp. (The mistake i regret most in my life.)

When i got back I went out and bought my 240z, I learned what Z was all about as i was driving it. The backroads didn't seem as twisty, and I just loved the feel.

Recently I bought a 78 280z, I have plans for a performance resto on my 240z. I figure I needed another daily driver, so i started looking for another Z, and found this 280 for a grand.

I will probably have 6 or 7 Zcars within a few years or so.

I have Z fever.

My turn?

I'm new to this scene, but not to ownership.

58 yrs old, married 36 this year. Wife helped pick out the 240Z when new!! Three son's, the Marx Brothers.

Original Owner of a 10/71 build Z with about 77K miles.

Did 23 yrs as Army officer after ROTC at The Ohio State University

Own a 1998 Camry, and a 2002 Focus SVT.

Wife and I jointed the Swan Creek Sports Car Club and autocrosses from day one, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Aberdeen MD.

Car has been in VA, TX, KS, MI, OH, and stored for 9 years during tours in Germany 4yr, Japan (Okinawa)3yr, and The Netherlands 2yr. Was President of the Okinawa Sports Car Club, which had/has a long history to include races in the 50's.

I bought Minilite wheels in 73, at $125each. What is that in todays $. Now the Panasport wheel has taken that look, and has the plus diameters. Mine are 14x6.5. With 60 series Kumo Victor racers, there is a lot (too much) space in the wheel well.

Put on BRE spook and spoiler in 73. Replaced shocks, brakes, tension rod, steering rack bushings.

Had dealer replace the diff at about 16k, miles at great expense due to considerable whine. Still have the diff and need to have someone rebuild. The replacement whined almost as much?

Member of the Ohio Valley Region OVR of the SCCA, and of a new Z club in central Ohio, The Z & Roadster Owners Club. ZROC.

We just sort of broke away from the Z club of Ohio out of Cincinnati, and combined the Roadster club of Ohio which was getting quite small.

Have a 2.5in exhaust from headers back to turbo exhaust.

Love to autocross, but needs stiffer shocks, adjustable would be great.

Thanks for listening.

9 pages take a while to read, but it's cool seeing who some of you are. So, I'm Mark - 42, one wife for the past 18 years, and three sons (10, 12, and 15). Just signed the drivers permit application for the 15 year old today. Pity me! I live here in Champaign, IL, about 45 miles from where I grew up in Decatur, IL. Got a BS in Engineering here at the University of Illinois, and then spent 6 years in Los Angeles (UCLA) getting a Ph.D. in engineering to go with it. Then 5 years in South Carolina working for Westinghouse at a Dept. of Energy site doing Safety Engineering work. Then followed 7 years in Bel Air, MD (just north of Baltimore) working for a company called SAIC doing safety work, and then information technology work for the Army. Now I'm back working in a research group at the University of Illinois, using supercomputers to model Solid Propellant Rockets (a rocket scientist in a manner of speaking :classic: ) like the ones on the space shuttle. www.csar.uiuc.edu if you're interested in that sort of thing. I'm their software engineering and QA manager.

My first car in 1977 was a 71 240Z that I switched the auto tranny to a 4 speed, rebuilt the head, and much of the body on. Rustbelt, you know. I traded it in in 1981 on a 75 280Z that I had until I graduated from UCLA in 89. Had the suspension on that one tricked out with heavy bars, springs, etc. I liked it, but I was married with one kid when I graduated, and had to keep the station wagon, and not the Z  . In 94, in Maryland, I found a '78 280 that was in OK shape for $900. Not too much rust. Just needed a few things to pass MD safety. Well, I never had time. 6 years later I towed the thing from MD to IL, still waiting to fix it. This January, I ripped out the interior, only to find huge amounts of floor/frame rust. Then one day in March, as I was looking around to decide whether to fix or buy another one, I noticed a silver 240Z on a side street here in town. Stopped by, and it was for sale! After finding that it was 11/69 car #215, I did a little research, and luckily for me, the guy who owned it needed $$ and dropped his price by $1500. Still probably paid too much given the rust I've now found, but hey, It's a project.

So, the restoration begins...I'll be around for quite a while. Nice meeting you all.

I'm another Steve and I am addicted to the Speed Channel. 47 yrs. old, married 20 yrs. and have two daughters 10 and 8. I have two 240Z's from 1973, the same year I graduated high school. Both the green and orange Z have been autocrossed on and off when the money allows. I have been a T.V. videographer for 23 years. My cars for the past 31 years include a '65 Corvair Corsa, '66 Corvair Monza, 71 Opel station wagon, '81 VW Scirroco, '76 Jaguar XJ V8 conversion , 2 Datsun 510 two doors, 2 Datsun 510 wagons, 2 '71 Datsun 240 Z's and the current '73 Z's. We have a family mini-van and I drive a company Ford van for work. I commuted in the green Z for several years but it is way to crazy now with all the 5000 pound SUV's that can't see a lowered 240. So now both cars are becoming dedicated track cars. One autocross, the other open track. I probably will be selling the autocross car to finish the track car. Too much of a good thing!

This is Great!

I'm Christopher, 49 year old Architect in Sarasota, Florida. I am single with a 15 year old daughter.

I bought my Z from the estate of the original owner in1984. I grew up in Sarasota, the car is from Sarasota, and it is probably the first Z I remember seeing. It belonged to a friend's father.

In my younger days, I raced an MG in SCCA FP, an Alexis FF, and a Porsche 911 in DP. The Porsche went on to GTU IMSA during the heydays of John Paul, Don Wittington and I got to drive one stint at the Daytona 24 before Freddy crashed the car at 5 in the morning. Bobby Rahal used to hang out with his FB at Florida Region SCCA beer parties. I remember Janet Guthrie and Lynn St. James from those parties. I worked on Triumphs and Jaguars for Rick Cline in Gainesville during my college years and watched Rick and Jack May drive off in Jack's Ferrari on their way to the Redball Garage in 1975? I have crewed for several different race teams. Florida is full of race teams with Sebring and Daytona here. I am partial to Chevrons and Lolas, but I wouldn't turn a Lotus down.

I took up sailboat racing in 1980 and raced Hobies for a while, but sold all my boats a few years ago and started traveling in Europe. I have been hiking in the Alps. During all this, I got married, got divorced, started my own business seven years ago. I drive a BMW 330Ci.

This is a great forum. I have enjoyed reading about all of you.
