Hi everyone:

I have a 240Z and need help on the following things.

1) Need help on putting in 40mm SK racing carbs triple webbers.

2) Take off/install the Brake Vac.

3) Advice and planning for future projects.

Car starts but doesn't run well (I think is becuase of the old flat top carbs

needs to be changed), so would need someone very good with the Z car. will have to local to the Monrovia, CA area.. I need help fast so please send me a message. willing to pay for labor and parts. Thanks

and it will help you to do it buy giveing yourself some time on your car. Trust me this is a good start to a learning experience on working on your own car.

Most dont know about Z cars, (meaning mechanics at your local shops) and the more you can do yourself the more you can save.

If you have a set of basic tools, ie wrenches, extensions and ratchets and sockets, the two jobs you listed are easy.

The hardest part for me with the master vac brake booster is getting the 4 nuts off of the inside. Its an easy task.

Now for the tripples if you have a stock engine, I wouldnt recommend putting these carbs on till you have some engine work that can take advantage of what these carbs will offer.

I don't know much to start off with, so there isn't much I can do, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can right now. because I get more of a kick when it's all done by myself, but I would still need lots of help at the moment.

my car has a l28 block with a 240 head, 4 speed, with suspension tech springs, and 2.5 inch piping and aftermarket exhase. that's about it.

Talking about the 4 nuts for the brake vac, on the inside of the firewall... (Man! I saw one in the junk yard, would still need lots of help at the moment. I didn't have the right tools as well, I spend an hour on it and still didn't take it off.)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I have a front/ rear sway bars which need help installing as well. thanks

the brake booster on that car isn't difficult as in skill but it is a pain the butt, I can scan the instruction from a chiltons manual for you , but its pretty straight forward as in 4 bolts on the engine bay side and then from the driverside under part of the dash you have to remove it from the pedal and some small stuff from inside, the hard part is getting under the dash with tools to remove it , recommended using a pillow otherwise you will pay for it later , if its been on the car since day one is might be a tad stuck , good luck :geek: Jeff

crazy question here , but you know that the booster is bad right?for sure , signs of such is very hard brake pedal and a rise in the rpms when the pedal is pushed dues to the leak in the booster sometimes a air leak can be heard , just asking to be sure because like I mentioned before its not task I look forward in doing :):geek: good luck Jeff

the triples put a cam in your engine and you should be fine with them.

All you really need is a basic set of metric wrenches and sockets. You could pick this up for cheap at Sears.

To bad your not near PA, Id help you out.

Like seerex said, its not a hard job with the brake booster just a pain in the aspen.

On the triples carb deal. If you aren't proficient with tuning multiple carb setups you can lay out copious $$ having someone who is, tune on them for you. "Tune on them" is the term. You don't just walk up and turn a screw driver and all's well. It can require much tuning to get a set of carbs (especially triples) dialed in to a particular engine.

Our 260 conversion package complete with the JUST SUs video might be worth looking at. We supply everything needed to replace those flat top carbs. You keep the simplicity of the SU with the performance of the earlier pre-smogger carbs.

You might also take a look at the descriptive information on the street racing suspension video. It would help you on your sway bar install.....

It can be very rewarding to master projects like you're talking about. The early Z's aren't all that tough to master and the videos I mentioned can be a big help. Hit rewind and go again if you miss something the first time.....

The answer the question for brake vac. I'm sure it's broken, becuase it doesn't break well, has sound of air when I step on the pedel. RPM goes up a lot as well.

can you scan the instruction off of the Chilton's Guid for me? Thanks.

One more question about body/paint , my 240z has the side markers (door bumpers) and kick plates on the bottom edge of the door I was thinking of taking those off and keep it off after I pain the car, but that will leave a lots of little unwanted holes, which kills the eye. is there a way I can cover it up before I paint it? if I go to a body shop and tell them to match the orginal Silver using the paint code, would they be able to match it? or what kind of matching methods they use?

well I tried to post it and it didn't show up , how weird either way the instruction are about useless, but it does show how to rebuilt the booster if you would like that , and it has a nice breakdown of what all the parts go to and so forth, let me know Jeff

what year of Z is this that has a silver stock paint ? If you have flat tops then it must be a '74 . You are asking for nothing but a tuning problem with the webbers. There good units but you need to know what you are doing if you own them . I recommend the round top SUs for your 280 engine with SM needles. All the carberation you need. If you are building an all out engine for the track then the tripples might help. Unless you have deep pockets you would be best to spend some cash on tools and a couple of manuels . As what was stated earlier most mechanics now dont know Z cars. They are used to working on injected cars and if they cant plug in a diagnostic port , they for the most part dont know what is what. SUs are simple and great and will give you all the performance your engine can put out for the street . If you go to a custom body shop they will match any color you can come up with . If you go the Earl Shieb . That is just what you will get , an Earl Shieb job , a paint job that looks good from 30' .
