PrOxLaMuS© Posted December 7, 2003 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2003 Well.. as most of you may know of my accident.... I noticed I have anti-freeze leaking all over my passenger floor.. I looked for the source and it is a valve where the Inlet hose for the heater core comes in through the engine bay into a valve and then splits apart to the heater core. Here is a diagram from my book...
PrOxLaMuS© Posted December 7, 2003 Author Share #2 Posted December 7, 2003 Can anyone recognize this valve and do they know what the part is? I think I may have to get a new one.. and I don't even know where to start. I spent about an hour reading my Service Manual and I can't find anything about it, other than the picture I posted
gema Posted December 7, 2003 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2003 Take the book to a dealership and let it be there problem. Ask to check pricing and availibility, and if you don't like their price, buy it elsewhere. Good luck.
seerex Posted December 7, 2003 Share #4 Posted December 7, 2003 that is the heater unit , it could be either hose the short one is the inlet from the side of the block and the other long one goes the either the waterline spliter if you have water in your manifold or directly to the waterneck above the alternator

Check carefully where the hoses run through the firewall (from the engine side at first) as it could be a cracked hose and the A/F runs along the hose to the lower points which are inside your car. See if the hoses are wet there in the engine bay near the firewall. If they aren't, I'd get the hoses AND the valve and replace it all at once. This isn't the kind of job that you want to do twice, as you'll spend a lot of time on your back, upside down in the passenger footwell replacing this stuff.PS you'll be more comfortable doing this job if you pull the passenger seat out so you have more room to lay in there.Just my $.
Ed Posted December 7, 2003 Share #8 Posted December 7, 2003 Don't forget the firewall gromets if you replace the hoses.
PrOxLaMuS© Posted December 8, 2003 Author Share #9 Posted December 8, 2003 Well the hoses under neath are WET.... But I noticed that when I turn on the heater and start the car.. I see antifreeze comming out of the valve (is it a valve?) I see it squirting down to the hoses. So.. hmm
seerex Posted December 8, 2003 Share #10 Posted December 8, 2003 it is a valve , have you check to see that the heater hoses are just bad and cracked maybe in an are you can't see, if the hose feels hard and lacks the rubbery feels they might just be bad , much cheaper than the valve and if i was under there doing that anyway I would replace the hoses just to make sure I wasn't under there replacing them after the valve as well, good luck

So.. hmm Sounds like the valve is bad from your description. Unless the hoses look virtually new and are soft and supple as "Z beautie's butt", I'd replace them at the same time! As stated before, you don't want to have to do this job twice.
Zs-ondabrain Posted December 8, 2003 Share #12 Posted December 8, 2003 Please, Take Carls word to heart, he got the pleasure of listening to me bitch when I had a bad hose and thought it was the heater core or the valve. And found it was the hose, AFTER!!! I pulled the heater core out of the car.Replace the hoses if you have ANY doubt in your mind.its not worth the pain of lying upside down in your Z, twice. do it right the first time.Dave.
