Hi Chris:

Yes, I enjoyed reading it as well. A good idea to tell the stories from many viewpoints. Only a participant could appreciate the exhilaration of the dash across America.

I was at the Long Beach F1 GP in 1979 and observed the finishers who remaining in CA for the week leading up to the GP, take a cruise around the track (including the "ambulance on a flatbed" that lost it's transmission on the run into CA). Those folks were STILL having a grand time a week after the race had ended.

hi i think they can look bloody good have seen a pic of a yellow zed from melbourne with zg nose and wing 17" wheels it looks trick

I tried putting a gt falcon wing on the backof my zed years ago but it just didnt look right ended up going with the jim cook racing wing cut down 4" to suit my car not having any rear bumper

But must say i think i would go with one of the newer wings now

Have just got a zg nose looking for another hatch to put a wing on go back to std bonnet dont know if the 15' wheels will look right but worth a try

but getting shed sorted out for now so its while away

GT wings are for a purpose, not decoration for rice factor. Only cars that do circuit work should have them. It took me a good year before I put my wing on as I didn’t want to put any holes in the hatch. As said before there aren’t any wings out there that will suit a Zed or that will work well. You need at least 6 inches between the element and the hatch for the wing to work. The higher the better, but anything more than 7inches looks plain silly. All the Zed spoilers from factory and most after market ones do very little. I made my spoiler to suit the 240 using a mould of a helicopter blade (section). When installed I found handling at higher speeds 70mph+ was greatly improved and when braking from high speeds the car was much more stable once you jumped on the brakes at the end of the straights on a circuits.

Also works very well for placing food on at McDonalds car park :D

it came in Z's and has been proven to provide downforce at high speeds.

Where do you get the idea that the whale tail came on Z's??? It NEVER "came" on any Z. It is a design element of the Porsche 930/935 that was sold by after-marketers and grafted onto a few Z's by a few people. It was never very popular and thankfully died an early death.

The wing actually put 350 lbs of downforce on the vehicle at 100+ mph.

Oh, I thought we were talking about Real Z's.

Even for a ZX, I don't believe that it would do much of anything at the speeds that street cars are driven 95+% of the time. (except to look FUGLEY)
