LanceM Posted December 31, 2003 Share #49 Posted December 31, 2003 Earlier in this post someone mentioned that this was an older group, well being part of some "older" group myself all I can say is that money spent that doesn't give me better handling, HP, or gas mileage everyday, all the time, is wasted money. Chrome don't make you go! Well at least that's what we used to say that back in the ol'days..... Oh yeah, them wings look like stupid kid stuff Had to get something about wings in this post somehow

TomoHawk Posted December 31, 2003 Share #51 Posted December 31, 2003 Originally posted by MrPeabody Case in point, here was the one on my Z.... It doesn'y really look BAD. I think itr's just that it's mounted to the hatch, which is basically flimsy sheet metal in the area where the wing is mounted. If you put 350 lbs. on the hatch, the glass would break and the metal would bend in. If the legs on the wing were mounted, like, through the hatch to the frame, or on an external frame-type thing, it would look like part of the car, like the wing on an F1 car.I think that's the biggest reason why people don't like wings. They are a cheap add-on to the sheet metal, and not structurally sound. Even those "spoilers" on Grand-Ams, etc.
240znz Posted January 1, 2004 Share #52 Posted January 1, 2004 That wing is for looks ONLY. Wouldn't have one on my Zed but I have a factory fitted rear spoiler/lip/thingydosiwhatits on my 71 240. I'm not too sure why they put it there but my guess it was also for looks. Maybe someone here can shed more light on the reasons why?As previously stated above, rear wings are only any good if you are pulling serious speeds and they MUST be in the airflow. Zed's are well known to have very bad drag characteristics especially at the rear. The best thing you can do is to remove as much air from getting under the car before you get a rear wing. Little point trying to get the rear to sit down at speed while the front lifts up...you'd get double the amount of front lightness.Anyway......my personal preference is not to have big wings. Go240Zags Posted January 11, 2004 Share #53 Posted January 11, 2004 I'm not much into Whale tails, but here's one listed on ebay that looks in good shape and was from, they say, a 240Z. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33638&item=2453852595 I'm not even sure I care much for the look of the small rear spoilers.
