Where to get hatch seals at a reasonable price?

I was somewhat shocked when I got the prices from all z parts:

Inner: $185

Outer top: $55

Outer sides: 2 x $22

Glass: $145

Total: $429

I seriously just don't have that sorta money, I can't spare any more body parts and I've already sold my soul.

I'm slowly killing brain cells with exhaust fumes here so I do need to replace them.....so anyone know of any other places where I can get them at a reasonable price?

I don't thnk that you'll have much luck there...

And to add insult to injury, you should replace the tail-light seals too - ~$30 each from Nissan.

I sealed around the tail lights with a non hardening sealant at the begining of the year and that almost eradicated the problem. Now that it's back on the road after 7 months off, the problem is back with a vengance.

I spent hours a few weeks ago pulling the whole back end apart and sealing every bloody hole I could find. No difference. This avo I sealed all around the hatch from the outside with masking tape and it made a small difference, so I'm thinking I'll have to redo the tail lights again.

Might just get the proper seals from nissan this time hey.

Ive got fumes coming in somewhere too

cheap way out is to extend your exaust as much as you can.

go down to a auto mart place and get one of those chrome tips

Dont know if it will help ya but it might lessen the fumes till you can get your seals done.

There are standard type rubbers available which may do the job, you buy them to the length you want. May not be available in Townsville, Clark Rubber carry some but not the full range, or else check with a motor trimmer.

Make sure your wheel wells are in good shape too. I had a '75 280Z that at the end (just before I sold it), I could barely drive because of the fumes. I believe it was because, if you took off the interior left quarter trim, you could see the road down through the wheel well past the radio antenna . Kinda hard to seal that off with rubber...

Wasn't obvious from out side the car. Had to get into the wheelwell and look.

There were a few small gaps there that I sealed up. Both from inside and outside of the car.

Don't forget to check the firewall grommets and the shifter boots.... they can also let in quite a bit of exhaust smell.... even the slighest leak either at the head, or the manifold to head pipe can give off quite a bit of exhaust and it will be dragged back into the car through either the firewall or the trans tunnel.

Scotts Old Auto Rubber carry all these profiles and sell by the meter.

Don't have the actual address, look it up in the Yellow Pages.

Mate, I also had the same problem.

A rummage around at the wreckers solved the problem.

I found that some Toyotas, (I beg your pardon), have a rubber seal at the top of the engine bay, in front of the air intake, that does the job. It's a simple push on type with a soft, rounded top. Thing is, you'll need three of them to fit the inside of the hatch.

My "temporary" repair has been working well for around 12 months.

As for sealing around the tail lights, I purchased a roll of stick on foam rubber from the hardware store. Did the job !!!!!!.

If you have the rear left interior plastic panel removed, have a look in the mudguard well. there's a drain hole towards the front of the well.

Another place to check is the spare wheel well. If your car was once fitted with a tow bar, as mine was, there would be a couple of holes there that would need filling.

Forgot to mention that the rubber seals I canibalised from Toyotas,(pardon again), cost me about $5. The same rubbers do a damned fine job in the engine bay of a Zed as well. You know, up the top near the air intake and in the front of the radiator.
