Posted December 16, 200321 yr comment_60901 hey guys/gals new to the forum, first post but I've read quite a few of the threads here. got a couple quetions that I need help on1) after the car warms up, if I go to turn it off theirs a clunk then it will still be running, almost like its about to stall be it just keeps going, what could be the ptroblem ? running to rich? where can I adjust it if it is running to rich?2) the car starts to overheat when the RPM's are around 2500 , if I lower the RPM's it goes back down, it does this when I keep the RPM's at 2500. no problem going over 2500, just when it stays constant for a while. any suggestions on what could be causing this?the car is a 1973 240z with a 280 block and 260 head. also I just changed the thermostat housing and thermostat because the threads were stripped. thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9333-over-heating/ Share on other sites
December 16, 200321 yr comment_60908 If it is trying to run after the key is turned off, one of the most likely culprits is that your timing is too far advanced, or your idle is set too high.Timing that is too far advanced could also contribute to the overheating you are talking about as well.First, check your timing, then idle speed, then go after the other obvious things like a loose fan belt, inoperative fan clutch, clogged radiator, faulty water pump etc, faulty water temp sensor or gauge.....You will find a few new tech articles dealing with the fan clutch in out Tech articles, and if you do a search you should come up with threads dealing with all the others, or just peruse the engine forum. December 16, 200321 yr Author comment_60933 yeah I it's probably the idle because to turn it off I have to put it in fourth gear and lower the RPM's and then it will shut down. If that doesn't work I'll try the other things thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9333-over-heating/#findComment-60933 Share on other sites
