December 16, 200321 yr comment_60917 Actually the 240SX motor is a 4 cylinder....I don't think there were ever any DOHC L-6 Nissan engines in the US in any models.....SOHC L-6's, but no DOHC's....... December 16, 200321 yr Author comment_60932 I know most of the 240sx cars I have ever seen have been 4 cyl. But I saw this kid getting gas one day. It was a black 240SX ragtop. So I had some time and started talking with him. He was a total dumb azz like 17 years old. He starts out saying it was a V-8 Well at this point I play dumb so I can just look it over. I asked to open the hood and he let me. There was a DOHC inline 6 with a turbo I asked some more about the car, then he says "Well I dont know much about it. The car is my gandmother's and she asked me to fill the tank and put a few miles on it because she cant drive anymore and want a few miles put on it every month or so." :tapemouth :tapemouth :tapemouth I wish I could find where it's at. This is a small town but I keep looking and asking. But no one knows. Anyway, after I saw that I know there out there. Or did some oldlady do a motor swap :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9335-dohc/#findComment-60932 Share on other sites
December 17, 200321 yr comment_60965 Nissan replaced the L series with the RB series in the mid 80's. Not sure exactly when, but we started getting the RB engined skyline in 86/87.The RB could be had with a single cam head, or a twin cam head. December 17, 200321 yr Author comment_61058 Nissan replaced the L series with the RB series in the mid 80's. Not sure exactly when, but we started getting the RB engined skyline in 86/87. Ok, So after 87 you could get a dohc. Now was there a zx with the DOHC ? Or just in the 240sx ? I am just thinking of boneyard hunting for a dohc and wondering what I should ask for. December 17, 200321 yr comment_61067 There WAS a 24-valve DOHC 6 available in the S30-series bodyshell. It was first fitted to the PGC10 Skyline GT-R in 1968, and was available in the PS30 Fairlady Z 432 from 1969. It was called the "S20"............. December 18, 200321 yr comment_61112 You did notice I said not in the US... the number of S20's in the US could be counted on one hand more than likely, and you'd have an extra finger to wave at the odd pedestrian....:cross-eye And it doubt you'd ever see one in anything other than a 240.If he saw a DOHC 6 in a 240SX, it was a swap of some kind... but the usual swap is the SR20 DET in the 240SX... wonder if it was an RB? December 18, 200321 yr Author comment_61117 Thats the reason I ask I dont know what in the heck it was. Other then the FACT that it had six plug wires with SIX plugs down the center of two cams. Fuel injected with a intercooled turbo. It looked 110% bone stock and far from a show car. December 18, 200321 yr comment_61122 FWIW the Z31 200ZR was fitted with a DOHC inline 6 - the RB20DET NICS.That & the PS30 Z432 were the only DOHC inlines to be factory offered. Of course the is the OS-Giken 24v head for the L engine & the factory LY SOHC cross-flow head, but these were not something were factory offered (Alan, can you confirm that the LY was Works/Sports Option only?)It is highly likely the the S13/S14 previously mentioned was fitted with an RB20DET ECCS (R32/A32 etc) engine, but as I have previously mentioned; the RB-converted Silvias tend to run REAL hot & require major cooling/venting upgrades. Unless you are in Salt Lake city in winter..... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9335-dohc/#findComment-61122 Share on other sites
