what is the stock hp in a non turbo 83 280zx?

I don't know where that site got the info but the tag on my 78 280Z says 170HP@5600RPM(SAE) as opposed to their 149HP@5600RM(SAE). My repair manual says 151HP@5600RPM for the L24 and 165HP@5600RPM for the L26 both of which also differ from that chart on geocities. I beileve that the difference is that up untll 1979, Datsun used the gross HP figure on the vin tag. From 79 on they used the net HP figure. The chart seems to list the net HP.

I belive non-turbo zx's were rated at 145hp(NET)

The 280z L28 was rated at 170hp (gross) and it's probably a good

bet that the 280z had about the same NET hp as the ZX non turbo.

The turbo ZX's were rated at 180hp(NET).

Don't overlook the torque figures as that is a better measure of what you will feel from the seat of the pants.

The '83 non-turbo was rated at 145hp @ 5200rpm and 156lb/ft of torque @ 4400rpm.

The '79's for comparison's sake were rated at 135hp @5200rpm and 144lb/ft of torque @ 4400rpm.

The '78 280Z's when converted from SAE gross to SAE net are as follows:

149hp @5600rpm and 163lb/ft of torque @ 4400rpm's.
