Posted December 17, 200321 yr comment_61081 Hi, Im new to this club or any club. I'm trying to restore a 83 280zx and am looking for a new or next to new dashboard (Black). You use to be able to purchase them from the dealer, but they don't offer them anymore. I figure somebody or company must of bought them. Can anyone help. January 7, 200421 yr comment_63214 OK, I've been looking all over for a new dash. Motor Sport quoted me $1500. Does anyone know of any other dealer with a '72 dash? I've been reading about the dash restorations. Looks like I'm going that route if I can't find one that is reasonable.Another question. While I have the dash out, I planned on putting in a new wire harness. I've been told that it's not needed! After 30+ years I think it should be done to save problems down the road. Any ideas?Ken Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9359-dashboards/#findComment-63214 Share on other sites

Any ideas?Ken Having gone down the dash restoration process recently I would have to say that trying to replace the harness (assuming you could even find one) might be overkill. Keep in mind that the most likely place for electrical problems in the harness are where the connectors are. With the dash harness there are basically 3 groups of connectors: at the ignition/steering wheel, at the fuse box, and under the glove compartment. All of these connectors are fairly accessible even with the dash in. I had one connector that was basically melted closed due to overheating years ago and simply cut it out and added 4 separate connectors instead of a single molex connector with 4 wires. I plan on putting up some pictures once I get the new carpet in place and can get some good shots of the whole interior. January 8, 200421 yr comment_63246 Ken:Just a week or two ago I was speaking (typing) with Chloe and she indicated she had a new 72 (series 2) dash. Send her a PM (ID: msw) and inquire.I'm kinda/sorta looking for a series 1 for my 71. I'm considering Dashboard Restorations, but I have plenty of time till reassembly and would prefer new if I can find a decent price. January 8, 200421 yr comment_63331 240 BeachZ, MSA quoted you $1500 for a new dash? What year was this for? I have a '72 and bought a new dash from MSA for about $725. I think I got it about four or five months ago. I have a friend who bought a 28Zx dash for an '80 I believe and it was less than $500. However that was about 18 months ago. January 8, 200421 yr comment_63333 I called yesterday and that was the quote. I couldn't believe it either. I was thinking around $800. I've put out emails to other vendors but haven't heard anything yet. I do have have a '72 240Z. Series III. If you know of any other vendors/individuals that have a new dash, let me know and I'll contact them. Thanks,Ken Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9359-dashboards/#findComment-63333 Share on other sites
