December 24, 200321 yr Author comment_61871 Its under my tree, just not in the garage where I want it to be. I'm visiting with family right now, but when I get back the first trip will be to the bank to get the money. Gonna give the owner a call and let him know.2Many, don't get me paranoid on any rust issues. You know I break out in hives just thinking about it. Can't find any real problems at all on the car. December 24, 200321 yr comment_61876 Wasn't trying to make you paranoid... just letting you know the 280's have one place that does like to hide rust that the 240's don't... most people would never think to even look at that part of the bumper till it's too late... and we all know how expensive and hard to find the 280 bumpers are...:disappoin Well, sounds like at least one of us is gonna get his wish for Christmas...:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9368-78-black-pearl-z/?&page=4#findComment-61876 Share on other sites
December 24, 200321 yr Author comment_61879 Yeah, I looked behind the bumpers. There is some surface rust on the bottom of the front bumper, but it does not look real pervasive at all. Judging from the condition of the rest of the car, I just really can't believe that there would be any real rust hiding in there. There is just a little bit of road debris on the apron by the supports, so not much in the way of junk has been kicked up over the years. Might be due to the low mileage, I guess. I will take another look at the bumpers again before handing over the cash. December 29, 200321 yr Author comment_62191 I just got a reply back from the owner from an E-mail I sent while I was at the in-laws. Again I had requested him to go through the service records (which he claims to have) from the previous owner. He says they are in his safe. Now he is saying he can't find them. While I was at his house, he was unable to get in the safe, cause the key for it was in a vehicle that was not there.Really starting to wonder if he is trying to hide something on this car. For some reason, something always comes up when I request the service records he has said he possesses:ermm: .Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I can produce documentation on everything I've done to my truck at a moments notice, right down to when I got the windshield replaced from a rock. December 29, 200321 yr comment_62201 :classic: Smokey,I would be inclined to believe that he has the records; when I bought the car that is the subject of my avatar from the original owner I too requested the records once I decided to not part the car out. He supplied all records going back to 1980 (1978-1980 still missing) within two weeks of purchasing the car. Keep the faith as the car is in such great condition. December 29, 200321 yr comment_62204 You guys are getting "Zanal". You saw the car, Smokey. It is what it is as best you can tell anything about a used car. Some people don't keep records like we would. My father has the receipt for gas he bought at Brown Deer Airport for his airplane in 1949. I just don't keep all that clutter. It's a fire hazard.Did I tell you about the Black Pearl I saw in Hemmings? 33,000 miles $16,900. I say step up to the plate and feast your pallette on Black Pearl of Z! December 29, 200321 yr Author comment_62245 Well, he says he has them, then he doesn't, but he will look for them. Just kinda confusing. The real reason I am interested in them is if the mileage is correct, then it is worth quite a bit of money. Even if I think that it is correct, without documentation, I can't support the claim in a show, or to a prospective buyer on down the road. Looking at resale and keeping the value up.On a side note, I might be out of the Z game for a while. Found out my Mother has Multiple Sclerosis and I may be spending a large amount of time and energy helping her out. Got to see what pans out with that first. I have not called it quits yet, just looking at where my priorities need to be. December 30, 200321 yr Author comment_62306 Thanks for the support guys. I still have not called off the purchase of the BPE. I'm trying to see if I can make it all work out. Plus, I still have not heard anything about the service documents he has said he has.
