Any competitive solo2 BSP Zs out there?

Lets put it this way....I'd like to do both. Street and autoX. I will be sparing no expence. How fast you want to go is depended on how much money you want to spend. For instance: an RB26dett engine, bride seats, carbon fiber hood, cowl, dashboard, and rear hatch door. 5 lug conversion feather weight SSR 16x6 in the front and 16x7 in the rear, all wheel disk brakes by brembo, BFGoodrich T/A tires for the street, and Baby Hoosiers for the track. Nothing spared!! No shortcuts or skimping on the hardware. I am also building a rotisery so I can take care of the rust and reinforce the frame. I really want to put this front strut brace bar in and I think it will take some fabricating and welding.

Thanks for the advice. Happy Motoring!

Brian, I have little idea of the classes you are talking about but you did mention fitting a RB26DET engine. If there is an under 2 liter turbo class a SR20DET engine may be the go. They are light, reliable and can do very respectable hp. Only on an outright power track would the 26 have an advantage, on a tight track the 20 could well be quicker.

My experience with the first gen cars is that they respond very well to brake and suspension modifications and so do better in classes which allow such mods.

luckily for me locally in scca we have a pretty small class for bsp and sm2 so I won't finish 18th, only 5th ;-).

I'm afraid that the fact I have no provison for a rear bumper means I will be illegal for bsp and will get my doors blown off in a steeper class. I don't have the $$$ right now to put the kind of cash into the car to be at the top of any of these classes, but as this is my first season I just want to go out there and try.

locally driver skill seems to have more to do with winning then the car, If you are a really good driver you might be right in it, it really depends on the club your in. If only s30's show up for bsp in your local club, guess which car is the one to beat... or if enough show up you might be able to support a vsp or something which would make a more level playing field for the z.

-also if anyone has a CHEAP set of 15 X 7/15 X 8 wheels I can put my used victoracers on lemme hear from you. Otherwise I'm writing a check to Diamond in the next couple of months.(teammoonspinner@yahoo.com) .

Brian,

With the engine swap you're talking about, that automatically puts you in E Mod or SM2. In EM you'll be dog food if there are any remotely serious cars in your area. SM2 is the way to go. Street cars with serious performance mods. Of your list of plans you sound pretty seriously under-tired. You will need at least 8" wheels all around, if not bigger.

I agree but my guess is you do not want to cut and flare the fenders. Sounds like a fun SM2 car.

YellowBSP Bryan-

My SCCA region would allow you to run BSP for a year or two without the bumpers. If you started to win then some would whine about it but most of us would be fine. As for your engine, it won't matter if your new.

Happy Holidays all and thanks for the input! :classic:
