Posted December 21, 200321 yr comment_61415 Will an Oldsmobile 350 fit? CAn I go bigger? You know, bigger is better. I thought of an RB, then to a 2JZ, but I think for my budget, I'd have to go with a 350 cid. Any thoughts?:tapemouth Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9400-engine-sizes/ Share on other sites
December 21, 200321 yr comment_61422 It seems to me the biggest factor in a V8 swap is the availabilty of properly engineered components. Unless you plan to do a lot of fabrication yourself you'd probably want to go with one of the proven designs of a commercially available kit. That, in turn, will probably limit your choices of specific engines. December 21, 200321 yr comment_61425 Hey guys you can good budget willing, can pump out 700 or so ponnies from a good 'ol chevy small block. 350, 355, 383, 400. N/A to forced. Most V8 conversions I have seen have all been real pertty, but not heavy on motor. Jags that run, MotorsportAuto, And John's Z sell conversion kits for the bow tie SB. December 21, 200321 yr Author comment_61440 Have you seen a 350cid supercharged or even forced inducted (turbo)? I know that youd probably have to have horsepower to make horsepower with these conversions, but does that mean that power steering will take some hp away from the motor?:stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9400-engine-sizes/#findComment-61440 Share on other sites
December 21, 200321 yr comment_61485 I have seen charged chevy conversions. Of the Paxton, Vortech type, which hang off the front. Then is driven by a longer serpentine belt. I dont think I have seen any forced induced turbos(a turbo feeding a super charger, because both a forced air induction) on a 240Z conversion. I have on all out drag cars. Everything has a parasitic draw on th e engines horsepower. The water pump, alternator, power steering, A/C, supercharger. But the supercharger pays you back with more power.:devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9400-engine-sizes/#findComment-61485 Share on other sites
December 21, 200321 yr Author comment_61494 I'll go with the supercharger! I was looking in a Eblebrock catalog and they have a crate motor 350cid with 330hp. I'm pretty sure that they are a good company. I'm lookin' to smoke this guy I work with. He has a 280ZX and rumor has it that he is putting a turbo in his. (what type of engine he's putting a turbo on is not certin) I hope that I don't have to cut the hood to make room for the air filter. Going for the sleeper look this time.:cheeky: I'll have to do some more homework on this. (it will be nice to :dead: his 280ZX with my 240) He will be so crushed, and I like a good smack-down on someone who thinks he is the $^!#. More as it developes...... December 21, 200321 yr comment_61503 The Centrifugal style blower like the two I mentioned earlier do not sit on the intake like big 6-71 ones do Brain. So the air filtration can be custom piped in th e charger, then which ever kit you get for the chevy should have all the plumbing to the intake. Hood clearence allowing for a clean install. But th e best motor to use for full potential would be something like a purpose blower built 355cid with lower compression.:devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9400-engine-sizes/#findComment-61503 Share on other sites
December 22, 200321 yr comment_61520 You know what Brain, my bad. I was thinking F.I. for the clean install. If you huff a carb set up, the blower will set in the valley inplace of the regular intake and be much higher. Plus the carb(s).Hood scoop!:devious: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9400-engine-sizes/#findComment-61520 Share on other sites
December 22, 200321 yr comment_61522 I know a guy in east San Diego that will put a Chevy BB 454 in your Z. He can also modify the rear end. He is very good. Been drag racing Z's for years. December 22, 200321 yr Author comment_61544 San Diego, huh? looks like me and the family will have to take some leave this summer when I get my new Truck. Could he hook me up with some NOS? I just want like a 150 shot, ya know, something small. Does he port and polish also? That would be so sweet. Can you get in contact with your friend, Ed? Does he have an e-mail or website? I'd really like to see some of his work. Remember, I'm going for the sleeper look (besides the hood scoop :bandit: ) Thanks a lot Ed, keep in touch. January 10, 200421 yr Author comment_63600 Yeah, I was trying to be funny with the small shot joke. I have one other question. Is the only transmission for the V8 conv. an automatic? Can I get eather a 5 or 6 speed gearbox for this. I would love to have that much power in a Manual shift. In the meantime, I'll keep looking. Has anyone heard of V8 Archie? He puts V8's in Fieros. I'll try looking him up.Thanks... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9400-engine-sizes/#findComment-63600 Share on other sites
