Apparently the 260z had 7 more KW than the original 240z. WIth Boat anchors I don't know if it's true or not but it's what I read once.

THe problem was they weighed a bit more. The chassis was strengthend so it was not quite as quick.

The gearbox had a better ratio however not sure about the diff's this is also 2 seater I am talking about.

Back then the car performed quite well by the standard back then so there was no real need to go to any extreme and fit the L20 to the 260z and it wouldn't be called a 260z.

If you mean the S20 engine then it would have had a tripple car set up and probably not smog friendly. Also it was probably an expensive engine to produce being twin cam and tripple carbed.

I think Nissan saw the easy option which was to overcome emission control stroke the L24 out a bit. Remember it's success was that it was an affordable sports car.

Just my thoughts.

Now to turbo charge that would have been another kettle of fish :).

I don't think that a turbo would have helped emmisions. There were all kinds of ways to increase performance and still keep the emmisions low enough.

Still, the 260Z was not all that popular. With onlt 40,000 sold in the US compared to, say, a Mustang with 386,000 units when they also changed models in 1974.

It was only popular with a particular segment of the overall car market.

Sean,

Australia was Nissan's dumping ground for all it's un-saleable cars. The 260 2+2 was sold here until 78, complete with flat tops BECAUSE there was plentiful stock of them and they [Nissan] had to palm them off somewhere, no prizes for guessing where they ended up either!

In a way it made for some interesting local version with various combinations of model years appearing when the boat came in.

someones just sprouted this opinion "jonly 23 x 260Z 2 seater LHD in 75 & 7 in 76 ( non USA models)" !

Anyone like to comment, I'd like to know if it's true or not ?

We had a bloke over here who imported his 260 2+2 from New Zealand which had the S20 engine fitted, can't remember the carb set up but it was definitely a 2 pot !

Yeah, maybe Nissan dumped on you but you got some great cars as well - Alfa Dogs Skyline etc...

These cars would have been privately imported into NZ.

There are also some S20 zeds in Aus, also privately imported.

Well, when I said some S20's imported into Aus, I really only now of one. I guess if there is a least one then there may be others?

One would think it would be cheaper [least expensive to import directly from Japan, rather than NZ or AUS].

Many Japanese cars are being privately imported into Aus as "grey" imports, these being latter model GTR's etc.
