zeiss150 Posted December 24, 2003 Share #3 Posted December 24, 2003 Don't feel dumb ... we all start somewhere. The best way to find the year is on the inside "driver side" door frame. There will be an aluminum plate pop rivited to the door frame It will tell you manufacture date. if its a 240 it will have been made between oct 1969 and some time around Augest September 1973. anything after that in 1973 is a 260z. A good indicator will also be the hatch glass If the heater elements are vertical its a 71 or earlyer, If there horizontal its 72-73. If that metal plate isnt there... I think you can go by the serial # its by the defrost vents on the driver side It looks like HLS30-123456. What you do with the serial # is ask someone smater than me what to do with it :stupid: Hope this helps you out. Merry Christmas everyone!

zeiss150 Posted December 24, 2003 Share #8 Posted December 24, 2003 If you have vents on the hatch deck below the window Its a pretty good chance that you have a 1971. If you look on the passenger side of the engine between the first and second spark plug it should say E-31, that would pretty much confirm a 70 or 71. I take it that the 0-1 71 you posted was from the door? If it was I would guess that it was made in january of 71. If you have the vents and the E-31 head you're in great shape the early 240's are highly saut after. Hope this infor helps.
Victor Laury Posted December 24, 2003 Share #9 Posted December 24, 2003 Bill, you actually have an intersting Z car. HLS30 50735, Built in October of 1971, is one of the last 1971's produced. there was only 848 more produced to the 1972 cars. At that time, Nissan was way behind in production. Americans were paying a premium for the right to buy a car that wasn't even built yet. Because of this. Your car will have many features in common with the 1972 model year.I owned a very similar car, HLS30 48255. Mine rolled off the line 2,480 cars ahead of yours. It had some the fittings of a 1972 model year and some from 1971. For instance, the body had the pockets for retractable seat belts, but was fitted with 1971 non-retracting belts. We have had many a discussion here about these transistional models on this forum. You'll have lots of interesting things to discover as you learn about your car. Zrush Posted December 24, 2003 Share #12 Posted December 24, 2003 Hey Z dude, The car came with a L24 engine. Here are some engine specs,2393cc with twin SU carbs, rated at 151 Gross horse power at 5600 rpm's. Torque rating is 146 ft/lbs. at 4400 rpms. Bore and stroke is 3.27x2.90. Compression ratio is 8.8:1. Hope this info helps you out but I would recommend purchasing a factory service manual for that particular Z.
