Posted December 26, 200321 yr comment_61937 Ok so i've read through some old posts and here is what I think may be important to note with regard to my brake lights. To begin with I've checked all fuses and I'll double check them again soon but I replaced 1 blown one. This has not got the brake lights working. The flashers work fine and the parkers light up on both sides, I've just double checked that all wires are connected at the back of the car because I've been installing a stereo recently and think i may have disturbed something while doing this. It's just the actual depress of the pedal that gives no results all other lights on the car work. Im out of ideas unless it's the actual switch at the brake pedal. BTW the car is a 72 just to help distringuish between different wiring in the years. December 26, 200321 yr comment_61941 So unplug the brake pedal switch and touch the wires together. The brake lights should come on. If they do your swich is the problem, if they dont, you've ruled out another possible cause and can keep looking. Also check the bulbs. As they are dual filament, the brake light filament can break, and the normal (light) filament will still work. Sometime the broken filament can touch the other filament and cause all sorts of wierd symptoms. December 26, 200321 yr Author comment_61947 Yeah solved thought it was the switch and when I joined the wires the lights came on so I reconnected the wires to the switch and it works I cleaned up the contacts a bit and now it's working so either it's a dodgy switch or just poor contact either way I'm happy.:classic: Thanks for the reply. December 27, 200321 yr Author comment_62008 Funny how the simple things can leave you most baffled. I thought i'd done something installing the stereo but thought I'm sure I haven't when I looked around I couldn't see any problems.I think it was a poor connection for sure but if not at least I know the source of the problem.Mr C had to point out the blatently obvious with just connecting the wires. I'm not auto electrician but I'm getting more confident working with the Z's electrical systems. I was almost thinking of taking it to an Auto Electrician can you imagine. Would have been a waste of $50 i reakon.I think it was just hard to think yesterday after drinking so much christmas day I was a bit out of it.:cheeky: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9464-brake-lights-not-working/#findComment-62008 Share on other sites
December 27, 200321 yr comment_62012 If the contacts fail again you can pick up those switchy things for about $10. If you have any more probs... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9464-brake-lights-not-working/#findComment-62012 Share on other sites
