To the Perth members... Can anyone confirm if there are currently permanent speed cameras in the Northbridge tunnel? I know that there was considerable debate in the press on this subject a few months back as there have been no accidents involving death or injury in the tunnel (so why the need for these 'safety devices'?)

My reason for asking is that I had an attack of the loud pedal through there on Sunday night (boy does the Z go!) and now I'm wondering if it is going to cost me?

I am not aware of any cameras in there at the moment, because of the low lighting and the fact that many people have their lights on, would they need a camera that has a red pulse flash as per the multinovas you come across at night?

Don't blame you for putting your foot down, preferably with the window down so you can listen to the engine growl.

Thanks for the reassurance Lee. I had just picked my brother up from the E.Perth bus terminal and it was the first time he'd seen the car. I gave it full throttle in 3rd and the induction roar and acceleration were fantastic. Remember this is 'only' an L24 (albeit with an E31 head) and stock exhaust.... might have to hasten the demise of my rear muffler...:devious:

Just did a quick search on the web and came up with a few articles - all saying that the government is PLANNING to put them there.

So I'd say you're safe... guess you'll just have to play the waiting game now though.

I dont think their are any camera's in the tunnel but my mate recons that a message came over his radio saying that he was doing "12 km/ph over the speed limit". I dont belive him...

Never got a ticket in the mail then?

They like to put the multi nova camera on the side of the entrance to the Poly pipe. on the south bound lane, where the grassy section is.

I never got a ticket due to my antics in the tunnel (your turn now!)

I did get my first ticket in the Z on the Mitchell Freeway heading south from Joondalup - 112 in a 100 zone...$100.

BTW Chris, I uset to have a Moto Guzzi 1000S with fairly open pipes - it sounded great in the tunnel too!!

Your speedo is in miles per hour is it Hayden. I wonder if you could have gotten off by claiming a conversion error in the maths when mentally converting mph to kph.

I used to do 130kmh on the freeway to work every morining, traffic permitting. Cameras arent effective across 3 lanes of fairly heavy traffic.

Aha, I was wondering about this for some time. I too have had the urge to let the 'k bellow in the tunnel - fantastic, if a little intimidating for other motorists. Ive memorised that spot though, craig, just before the entrance to the southbound side of the tunnel...hmmm...bellowing, that reminds me. I noticed something funny the other day. While in one of the city's numerous high-rise car parks, much to my dismay there were no spaces left on the lower levels. I kept climbing and climbing, expecting to grab a space on the next level, to no avail. As i ascended, i became more and more frustrated, giving the car a bit more as i completed one level after the other. Being the smooth, reverberation friendly construction that these car parks are, all it took was a little prod of the throttle and car alarms everywhere would respond in harsh, shrill tones! By the time i had reached the top, i had created a symphony of noise behind me!

Its happend many times before, giving the car a bit while passing parked cars. Once a couple had just disembarked from their holden commode, my passing immediately activating its alarm. The look on their faces....
