Posted January 1, 200421 yr comment_62457 Anybody here on the west coast going to the Vintage Auto Racing University driving school? Would like to see some 240z's there as I'll be instructing again and bringing my new 240z if I get it ready in time! January 2, 200421 yr comment_62584 Would love to go! But we are saving up the pennys to hit a NASA HPDE at Infineon in a few months. We have always wanted to drive that track, so we are getting ready for it. Still getting our act together in the Open Track & HPDE and learning what this car needs, but isn't Vara all racing? We have a friend in VARA that invited us up to the Big Bore Bash at Willow Springs in Nov. and we had a blast with the Vara people. You might know him? Dr. Morty Dunst, he drives a Triumph- Red #25. Is the VARA going to require a "head & neck" restraint device in 2004? What is the scoop on requirements of physicals, membership fees and class fees, 3 layer driving suits, also any discounts for 2 people sharing a car? These are concerns that make or break us from participating a Vara event. Will you be attending the Vara Tech Day at Irwindale raceway coming up?Talk to ya later.Craig Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9523-vara-university-driving-school/#findComment-62584 Share on other sites
January 2, 200421 yr Author comment_62625 Craig, I was at the Big Bore Bash in my Spitfire. Unfortunately I broke a axle. I race against Mordy all the time. He's always chasing my Spitfire. Yea VARA is racing Club and lots of Fun. It's more low key than SCCA or pro class and let us "tune"our cars more. I'm one of the Rookie Instructors for VARA and have a lot of fun with the new Guys and Gals every Friday night before the racing over the weekend. Not much physical req'd except a physical every 2 years. Head and neck restraints for 2004 are recomended not req'd till 2005. A neck collar is required in 2004. All Std Safety stuff req'd, Fuel Cell, Diving Suit (2layer) or Single with Nomex underwear, Gloves and Driving shoes and a Snell 2000 (not M) Helmet. $75 a year Dues'. Race weekends are $210.00 for 2 sessions a day with a 30 min race on Sunday. CA. Speedway Race will include a test day Friday for $50.00. They do give discounts for 2 cars same driver but not 2 drivers one car. I'll be at Irwindale for Anual Tech with my Spit. (Silver #892) Look for me there by Mordy. See ya there! John W. January 2, 200421 yr comment_62631 Hi John, I figured you bought that yellow car since the ebay ad disappeared the same day we emailed each other. I'm taking my car to HSR-West in Phoenix the end of Jan. If I have the money, and the car isn't sold yet, I'll see you at the Feb VARA event.I'm really hoping it sells in Phoenix. The HSR event is being held in conjunction with the Kruse auction, so maybe some guy will get bitten by the racing bug and take my car home.Mike Eckhaus Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9523-vara-university-driving-school/#findComment-62631 Share on other sites
