Posted January 1, 200421 yr comment_62505 What is the proper procedure for doing the timing on a 1978 280z, in the book it just tells you what the timing is, it does'nt tell you if you have to plug the vaccum advance or anything like that. So could somebody help me, Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9531-timing/ Share on other sites

January 6, 200421 yr comment_62928 According to the Chilton"s Manual, you are to keep the vacuum hose CONNECTED to the distributer advance vacuum diaphram. Hope this helps you out.:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9531-timing/#findComment-62928 Share on other sites

January 10, 200421 yr comment_63602 Good point beandip I would certainly like to know what people are running and what they find best for their applications. On triples etc most suppliers (Webcon, Pierce etc) recommend cap off the vacuum and advance timing a little to compensate.Maybe time for a pole Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9531-timing/#findComment-63602 Share on other sites
January 10, 200421 yr comment_63620 Originally posted by SteveK Good point beandip I would certainly like to know what people are running and what they find best for their applications........... Maybe time for a pole Would that be the same as a "poll"? My recollection (don't have my manuals with me at work) is that the vacuum hose should be disconnected and plugged up when setting timing. That is the way I have always done it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9531-timing/#findComment-63620 Share on other sites
