Posted January 1, 200421 yr comment_62515 Chrome ashtray wanted for 1970 (Series 1) 240z i.e. the one that is located on the plastic panel that covers the fuse box. I have the panel and ashtray lid awaiting. Any condition considered. Will need to post to the UK - but this is fairly straight forward. I will pay for postage and packing of course. Thanks. January 1, 200421 yr comment_62516 These ashtrays were not made of metal, let alone metal that was or could be chromed. They were made of some sort of pastic or bake-lite type material. January 1, 200421 yr Author comment_62534 Well you learn something new every day!I guess not many of these survive if they were made of bake-lite. Strange choice of material for an ashtray. Thanks for the info.Dave Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9534-chrome-ashtray/#findComment-62534 Share on other sites
January 1, 200421 yr comment_62535 Hi Dave:I forgot to mention that these ashtrays pop up on eBay (the USA site) periodically and sell for serious money when in very good condition. I've seen several go for well over $100 USD.All the Best,Carl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9534-chrome-ashtray/#findComment-62535 Share on other sites

January 3, 200421 yr comment_62659 You were very correct, Mark. The ash tray sold for $128 without good chrome! Amazing. Here is a link to an old ash tray discussion I wrote some time ago discussing the differences in early types. The Bakelite material is very difficult to glue and repair, but I have found that "superglue" does the trick and suggest a high viscosity glue to keep the glued joint clean.http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9374&highlight=ash+trays Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9534-chrome-ashtray/#findComment-62659 Share on other sites
