Carb for 240K coupe

Razor

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of good british SU carbs with a manifold and balance tube to suit the 240K, as well as the rod from the firewall to the carbs. They were running well apparently on a 260Z but I cant back that up. Let me know if you are interested.

James,

My 240's pedal was perfect - very easy to feather. I'm afraid with the K that if I get a manual I won't be able to get off the line well enough because of hte pedal, it's so unfriendly. The pedals on the 240Z and 240K are hooked up completely different though as you would know, so this would probably have something to do with it!

I had/have the same problem you guys are experiencing with your K's with my VK after I put on a 350CFM 2BBL Holley however, I never had a problem launching :devious: I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it bugs you alot, you'll get used to it, it's an L6 afterall if you're worried about initial pickup you should be able to ease the clutch out with no acceleration and get going easily enough, and if you really wanted to launch you'd want to be in a higher RPM range anyway which would put you in the stickey section which is acutally (on the VK anyway) quite easy to maintain a stable rev.

I'm guessing it's a cable throttle/pivot point problem.

I've set the idle screws a little higher to compensate on mine.

Without doing this the 'slack' was really noticeable.

I'm also thinking of looking into the Ford Weber carbs as a conversion for the L6; apparently some Falcons have downdraught Webers- will investigate this option, a handy mod to know of...hmm:geek:

If you go triple carbs Webers or Dellortos; other makes you may find hard to find spares for.

Carb size ie 40's, 45's, 48's, 50's etc depend on engine specs.

Slightly modified eg cam work stick with 40's, higher C/R + cam work maybe 45's.

Higher than this you start talking sprint's, circuit racing, although you can have the chokes downsized to suit your application.

You'll find SU carbs are very adaptable; I had a very quick 260Z that would outpace, accelerate quicker than many triple carbed Z's, but all things considered if you were to race then triple's would be the go. SU's give very good street economy and grunt at the same time.

so I should buy th SU's from 280ZX for now and dream about the triple's later as they are heaps more expensive

do you know on top of your head how much the triple weber cost new and used? just want a ballpark figure for future mod

280zx's didn't have SU's; all EFI.

The Datsun SU carbs you want are from the 240Z. These are very simple to tune and easy to work with.

Don't get the 260Z carburettors unless you find a 260Z that has 240Z carbs on it ;).

Make sure you get the fuel rail, manifold, linkages, filter/s, bolts/nuts/washers and anything else relevant attached.

Good set of SU's go from a $100 bargain to $500 fully rebuilt.

Good luck, oh and new triple carbs put aside $2500 plus $200+ for a manifold.
