Hi everyone

I want to convert my auto tranny to 5 speed manual for my '75 240K (Skyline C110) coupe, and I called Z car workshop (brisbane Z workshop) as I heard I can just get parts from Z's and will bolt straight in as they are similar in some stuff, and the guy told me to just buy a manual car as it is a very difficult job.???

Anyone knows a place that will do this conversion?

thanks

I think the guy is fobbing you off either because he doesn't know what he's talking about or he's busy with other work or just plain lazy.

A standard 5speed from a Zcar should fit in no troubles at all, I have to do this conversion as well, I just have to get the 5speed as the one I already got for cheap was the wrong type (it was a shorty from a 6cyl L-series HR30 Skyline)

I'm currently waiting on the Clutch master and Slaves as well as the Pedal Box and an L20ET Flywheel, I've paid for them they just haven't arrived yet the guy has been busy over the Xmas period.

Dropping a tranny out is pretty basic stuff, they only place you may run into trouble may be the pedal box but I'll update once I get the parts and have deduced the process a bit further.

You need the gearbox. pedalbox and master and slave cylinders, and the piping to join them. maybe a different prop shaft? Possibly a rear gearbox mount if the auto one is different.

The gear stick is different in teh 240k. its a straight one and the 240z is bent. I had a 240k box in my 2 and it wrecked my center console as the stick was just a bit too far forward. But I got a 260z box now which i plan to install.

Probaly easier to do the work yourself.

Easy swap.

Make sure all lines from auto trans are disconnected b4 you remove the g'box.

Pedal box isn't required, already a provision within the K's pedal box for the clutch pedal to slide onto, just circlip it on, attach spring and attach to clutch mast cylinder.

Same length propellor/tailshaft, g'box mount auto/manual is identical.

You'll have to re-wire part of your ignition circuit (auto trans removed now) so a relay works fine here. If you're not sure how to do this, just get an auto elec to do it ~$50-+??

Also plug off the hole in the inlet manifold after you remove the "can't remember the name of it" line to the auto box.

It's a worthwhile swap, put a couple of days aside if it's the first time you've done this, that way you'll enjoy it and not end up an angry fellow!

Cheers, James
