Yeah great for burning 4 round circles into your back on those hot Perth summers.

Hi Halz

Just thought I would let you know that I am in the process of having my seats restored, I bought my seat covers from the US some timw ago (and when the exchange rate was less favourable) by the time I had got them in my hot little hand they had set me back AUD $500.00

I have to say I am well pleased with the covers and as I am also trying to get as close as possible to originality I think I made a good choice.

Seats are now at the trimmers who are a bit slack as I dropped the seats and covers off over two weeks ago and they have only just given me a quote and then after I hassled them.

The quote has come in at AUD $350.00 for the pair, that is for a complete rebuild of the seat, foam, webbing etc, a freind of mine recently had his covers fitted but they are a little loose IMO and spoil the look of the seat, with all the money I have spent so far I figured I may as well get them done properly.

Should have the car on the road in a couple of weeks, just waiting for the dash to come back from Brisbane which is due at the end of next week.

Lee,

Thanks for update. Did you get the foam padding from the 'states as well? How long did the covers take to arrive? Did you have to pay much duty? Also, which trimmer are you using?

I would be very interested in seeing your car when it is back on the road... send me an email or PM when you have it and are free!

I am awaiting a replacement radiator at the moment and am a bit reluctant to drive my car in the current weather with is losing water the way it is. I will be turning my attention to the interior when the rad. is done.

Hayden.

Hi Hayden

Sorry but I can't be much help on the breakdown of cost's as I ordered them the same time as a mate of mine who purchased them using his credit card, when his credit card statement came through we just split the cost, worked out at $500 for each of us, the other reason I did'nt ask him for a breakdown of costs was because I was busy fending off blow's from my wife when she found out how much I had spent on seat covers, her comment went something like " the whole car's not worth $500.00":classic:

You've just got to pity these zed ignorant people don't you!

Anyway I've spent a whole load of money since and she's still here so she can't be all that bad.

Iv'e just had my rad re-cored, got a pretty good deal with Joondalup radiators, charged me $260.00 everyone else wanted around $350.00

I am using Scott's trimming service at Wangara for the seats, all I have to supply is the old seats and the covers, they do all the rest for the price, new foam, webbing etc

Will let you know when I get the car back so you can see the results of the various tradesman I have used.

Depending on what color you are going to do the interior in ..the more cleaning that will be necessary...

All I did when I changed the color of off white seats to black..was to remove the seats from the car..wash them off , dry them then let them finish air drying...once dry I sprayed them with a gloss black upolstry dye..which I picked up at either Autozone or Advanced Auto....worked very well on my Z

Not that I buy many things from either of the above but NAPA was not open nor was the Auto Body paint supplier that I go to for odds and ends open....the guys at the other two places only seem to know a little about domestic motorcars...and not too much regrading them either....ROFL ROFL

  • 4 weeks later...

Well everyone, I've just ordered my new covers from Classic Datsun and hope to have them here in a month or two. apparently the Tan (Butterscotch) colour has to be made specially...they're obviously not as common as black.

The way the Aussie Dollar is performing against the Greenback at the moment, the deal is getting cheaper every day!
