Posted January 7, 200421 yr comment_63108 Are the Black Pearl editions marked on the vehilce in any manner to identify? I know all the ones I have seen in the past had nice pinstripe detail, yet this car does not appear to have any different details or badges to show different from any other 280http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2452438408&category=6187#ebayphotohostingThanks for any help in advance:ermm: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9614-black-pearl-or-not/ Share on other sites
January 7, 200421 yr comment_63114 The paint code is correct for a Black Pearl. The mirrors are aftermarket also. If it is a true Pearl, the pinstripes probably dried up and pealed off as the paint has seen better days. zhome.com has all the info you might need in reference to a Black Pearl. January 7, 200421 yr Author comment_63122 Thanks for the info:classic: I guess the only real difference is the paint for a Pearl edition according to zhome.com. the cars were offered with an special rim package as well. I was under the impression that there were some other differences with Pearl editions, yet color/pinstripe appears to be "package". Under the paint, the hardware/horses are all the same I guess:ermm: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9614-black-pearl-or-not/#findComment-63122 Share on other sites
January 7, 200421 yr comment_63157 I got this blurb from Zcarz.com - Hope it helps. We also had another Black Pearl discussion about two weeks ago. In 1978 Nissan released a Black Pearl Edition 280Z, as a test market device to determine if the color black should be added to the Z-car model line colors. Some of these Black Pearl Editions came with a Sports Appearance Package which included the following options: Availability: Package Content: -2 Seater Coupe - Red & Silver Accent Stripes On: - Body-side - Hood - Deck-lid - Headlights -Black Pearl Metallic Paint -Rear Window Sunshade -Dual Racing Mirrors This all with a price tag of $8,287.00! The eBay car has the mirrors and the louvers (if they are original) meaning the car may have come with the appearance package originally. I got a kick out of the description; no real rust issues other than a frame rail replacement. At 112,000 miles, it sounds like a clapped out 280Z rather than a collector car. Might be worth saving if the price was right. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9614-black-pearl-or-not/#findComment-63157 Share on other sites

January 7, 200421 yr Author comment_63187 Nice wheels!:classic: Was that car originally from Il.? I been in WI for couple of years now, and everything up here is too crispy to consider restoring, unless it's been taken care of from the start. Then it wouldn't need resto anyways! Would love to find a deal on a 77 (love the EFI and hood vents!), but for my pocketbook everything is rotted. Ebay has some OK deals, but then there is the cost of shipping which can exceed the final bid. January 7, 200421 yr comment_63211 my car was originally was from Az. then spent most of it's life in Texas... the guy I bought it from brought it up from Texas 6 years ago and he took pretty good care of it... I found it in the Rockford IL . area.. a bit north of there about 4 miles from your border... it needs some work waiting till spring to start on some minor rust removing .. if I see one around the area that looks good I'll let you know.. good luck in your search Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9614-black-pearl-or-not/#findComment-63211 Share on other sites
