Seat list for Z's ?

Recommended Posts

I found this post over at HybridZ.org and figured I would post it here as well.

Its a list of seats that fit the Miata, as we all know the Miata seats fit well into the Z's so this should be a good list of seats for the Z crowd. The list comes with prices web sites and weights.

Pretty good little chart.

I bought a wrecked `83' Z28 Camaro for a parts car and took the power seat (drivers) seat and installed it in the 240. Miserable was the best I could call it. The lower part of the seat is so short that it offered very little in the way of support. I put the original 240 seat back in but added the power rack part of the Z28 seat. It is only an inch higher than normal when set at its lowest point. The seat works fine and does offer some additional comfort for long haul drives.

I put Fierro seats in my 240. I replaced the original speakers in the headrests and had them recovered in Vinyl with clothe inserts (www.hls30.com for a veiw) They fit well-and many upholstery options are available inexpensively at: www.mrmikes.com and from www.upholsterykits.com.

What ever you get, be sure to tag them with what they came from, so years from now you will know what covers to buy!

I can't decide between the Corbeau GT7's, A4's, or Forza's...anyone ever sat in these? I want a seat that I can throw the car around with and not be in the OTHER side of the car, but I also make some long trips occasionally. Gotta be adjustable and comfortable...hmmm...

I kept the original seats in my 77 280Z but had them re-stuffed and covered. They are so comfortably now and I don't slide all over the place. I like the look of the Z seat and wanted to keep the style but have a little more padding around my azz.LOL

I have the Eclipse seats in my 280z. The height was (higher) just right so I can get my elbow out the window. Original seats were like sitting on the floor. The problem I had with the Eclipse seats was that the mounts needed moderate mods to fit the Z seat mount holes and seat was wide and crowded the center console, so I cut off the aft part. The fire extinguisher won't fit under the console lid any way.

I took some measurements years ago when I convinced a friend to install 1st generation Miata seats in an MGB. Afterwards I was curious and compared the measurements to a stock 280Z seat. In all directions the Miata seat is within 1 to 2 inches of the stock Z seat. The seatback is slightly narrower and the seat cushion is actually just a bit longer but, almost identical in width. I still have the measurements someplace and I will go and retrieve them. The seat rails are slightly different so it wouldn't be a straight bolt in however, materials technology has come a long way and the Miata seats are probably going to be durable over the long run and with more aggresive padding it ought to provide more stability for the autocrossers and roadracers amongst us.

For the clincher most junkyards are quite happy to sell a set for about $100.00 (that's what my friend paid for his) and if you are so inlcined the Miata seats have speakers built into the headrests.
