February 8, 200421 yr comment_67573 he he he... It has an "Alfa Romeo" center peice. Is it really wood, or just plastic like the stock 240z one? (It was plastic so in a crash it wouldn't splinter) It wouls suit a Z too!:stupid: Cheer'z' Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9625-new-wooden-steering-wheel/#findComment-67573 Share on other sites

February 8, 200421 yr Author comment_67589 Originally posted by ananimator Hi,Is this steering wheel still available? What would I need to install it on an 1971 240Z?Thanks,Bill I believe the wheel is sold. In response to some of the posts, it is real wood and would look great in a Z. A friend is restoring a Z and bought a Grant wheel for his car that is nearly identical except for the bolt pattern attaching it to the hub. A Momo hub adapter to the Z will have the correct pattern to affix the wheel to the hub. If my deal falls through I'll get back to you. Thanks. February 8, 200421 yr comment_67603 :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: I should have looked it up before I opened my mouth(typing fingers). Mr. Camouflage and datto_240z, you guys are right. The original 240z steering wheel is plastic with a simulated wood grain layer on top. Sorry for the mix up. -Ben Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9625-new-wooden-steering-wheel/#findComment-67603 Share on other sites
February 11, 200421 yr comment_67988 Didn't we get the real story on this subject a few months ago? I think it was Kats who spoke to Matsuo san about it, and Matsuo san confirmed that the original steering wheels were indeed made from wood...It was a new process at the time, and involved pressing wood into a mould ( under huge pressure ) and combining it with some sort of resin?I don't remember the thread it was on, but I think I'm remembering it correctly. So it IS wood, but not JUST wood:ermm: Alan T. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9625-new-wooden-steering-wheel/#findComment-67988 Share on other sites
February 11, 200421 yr comment_67989 That would explain why when they crack, they seem to crack along the grain, however calling it wood is like calling a saussage meat isnt it? Its a half truth, kinda is but it isnt. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9625-new-wooden-steering-wheel/#findComment-67989 Share on other sites

February 11, 200421 yr comment_68032 I thought I remember it being a wood and plastic because when it breaks one can see the wood and the plastic. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9625-new-wooden-steering-wheel/#findComment-68032 Share on other sites
