August 20, 200717 yr comment_219110 Digging up an old thread but that's what search is for isn't it?So I'm planning to buy a 73 240z in the next few days and it's missing it's speedo cog. You have the part number for the 19 tooth cog but what about the yellow 16 tooth cog for a 3.364 rear end?I would look it up myself but haven't boughten any manuals yet as getting the z depends on two variables out of my control. August 21, 200717 yr comment_219311 Well more or less to answer my own question I looked around enough and found the part at courtesy nissan.http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CP&Category_Code=s30_nismo_pinionDifferent cogs at the top and the corresponding sleeves at the bottom of the page. November 15, 200717 yr comment_228615 I bought a 76 280Z with an 83 motor and tranny swap about a month ago and I suspect the speedos a little off. I have the original differential with the new tranny. Could I have the wrong cog wheel? November 15, 200717 yr comment_228622 I bought a 76 280Z with an 83 motor and tranny swap about a month ago and I suspect the speedos a little off. I have the original differential with the new tranny. Could I have the wrong cog wheel? You need the black one (17T) 32703-78101 for the stock 3.54 rear end. If the tranny came out of and 83 it probably has the white (19T). I know how everybody seems to love Courtesy Parts but I get my stuff from nissanparts.cc. They seem to be able to get parts that Coutresy says are NLA and their prices are a little better. November 15, 200717 yr comment_228652 Looking for a speedo gear for a 5.1to1 diff. Which one is it from the courtesy nissan list? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9633-speedo-gear-info/#findComment-228652 Share on other sites
November 15, 200717 yr comment_228668 Not sure where you're going to find that. The 23T is for a 4.88 and that's the highest I've ever seen from Nissan. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9633-speedo-gear-info/#findComment-228668 Share on other sites
November 15, 200717 yr comment_228686 Ha...maybe I'll just get an 83 differential instead. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9633-speedo-gear-info/#findComment-228686 Share on other sites
November 15, 200717 yr comment_228689 A 3.90 would be 'snappier' than a 3.54. But if you do ge an 83 diff, make sure it comes out of a manual trans car or you'll just be putting basically the same rear end in ratio wise but stepping down to a R180. November 16, 200717 yr comment_228739 I just bought a '77 280z 5 speed and it has the cog in it, I'm far to lazy to look up what tooth it is but if you know what it is and you want it give me a yell. I need the sleeve though so that's staying. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9633-speedo-gear-info/#findComment-228739 Share on other sites
November 16, 200717 yr comment_228740 He could use the cog but not the sleeve. If you put a 75-80 sleeve in a 81-84 trans the gear won't engage because of the difference in offset.
