Good to see ES is back . I want to make one point , as a former Californian , There is a lot of money made for the city and state this time of year from turism. Now that I live in cold country I apriciate the paraide . I lived about 1 hour away from it fror 45 yrs and only went to see it once . Now living here when we are fighting freezing rain and ice storms and snow and the pool is covered with 1/2" of Ice , it looks good. I also watch the Golf turny form Haiwii too. Sorry I cannot spell , I am deslecic.

I am sure that Ricks comments were sincere and heartfelt and many people feel the same way. My comment are sincere and heartfelt as well. Not everyone likes this parade, or Republicans, Democrats, Tossed Salad, Beef, Modern Art, Fords, Polar Bears, Soup, or Nutz. Different strokes for different folks. We're all entitled to our opinion(s).

No flame meant here either, but...........

Actually the fact is that this event is for those COUCH POTATOS (I'm outside, or elsewhere DOING something when it airs) who have nothing else to do but sit in front of the tube and watch it and time pass by. My opinion is that it exists solely as a vehicle for Corporate America advertise and to fill space between commercials, until the football games begin. Stuff on TV is not broadcast because it has any redeeming social value, it is broadcast only because someone will pay for commercials surrounding it. When the advertisers go away, so does the programming, no matter who, or how many people like it.

Flowers are beautiful and I appreciate viewing them, but they are best appreciated in a natural setting (garden) and not plucted and glued to a flatbed truck in the design of a duck or whatever. (Mrs. Rick understands this, as he indicated)

Steve, If you like flowers, you'll LOVE Bouchart Gardens! An amazing place well worth a visit.

Hey 1 Bravo 6, Thanks for noticing something nice from So. Cal. All the people donate their time on these things. I once helped work on a float when I was a teen- as a good excuse to get out of the house. Party on the way & party on the way home! Now I'm an old dude, and we just look for the type of float Cindys work has, City of Hope Hospital. This year it was pretty good. This is one day I can be a couch potatoe in my boxers and ya know what they say "No worries mate!"

Then later on in the day I go out in the garage and sit and look at the Z! But that is normal for all of us here, Right! :classic:

Hey, I like the Rose Parade. Watch it every year... From my living room. I'd never knock it, It fantastic. It's not really my bag, but I appreciate it anyway. Roses? I like them too. I've got Descanso Gardens down the street with the worlds largest collection.

Hey Coroporate America? Hooray for that too! Go Capitialism!

SoCal Tourism? Love it! I tell everybody, Come to California! Spend lots of Money! Then go home.

By all means, If it floats your float, PLEASE come down and see the parade. Go to Disneyland, Sixflags, Universal Studios, Knotts Berrry Farm, See's Chocolate Factory and thousands of other attractions.

My idea of an attraction is the very curvy Angeles Crest Highway up to Mt. Wilson in a sports car on a perfect SoCal day. To each their own.

Sometimes, being the devious, sh--t stirrer that I am has it's drawbacks. At times people don't know whether I'm serious or not.

I started this thread with the words "You Bloody Californians" because I KNEW that would gain attention.

BELIEVE ME I meant every word. I reckon the Tournament of Roses would have to be the BEST parade these tired old eyes have ever focused on. (With the exception of an ANZAC DAY PARADE).

This is one of the rare occasions that I disagree with Carl.

What impressed me was the materials used on the floats. Anything that is NATURAL. Not just flowers; but also every type of grain, veges, grasses and tree bark etc., etc.

Just think how many glue sticks would have been used sticking on each grain seed let alone the flower petals. LOL

Bloody good show.

I hope that we can continue this without anyone taking offense, and I will once again apologize to anyone that feels that my comments were offensive. Opinions are like derrieres, everyone has one, some are extremely comely and others would scare a baboon whilst others would gag a maggot.

Regarding corporate sponsorship of most (if not all) major events...no argument. Sadly there are few opportunities where people get together and effect worthwhile and notable events without someone in the corporate world seeing it as a viable mode of advertising. Then again, and also sadly, there are way too many individuals out there whose "altruism" is a thinly veiled veneer for massive greed. Those individuals would sell their mother's hide if they could.

Unfortunately, nowdays without some form of sponsorship from someone with the bucks, few events would be produced.

"Altruism" is a label used for some of these people's motives, when in fact, Self-Agrandizement best describes it. Maybe I'm too much of a cynic, but behind so many "altruistic" motives lies a big chunk of selfish ego building.

Oh well, maybe sometime in the future we'll begin once again being helpful without expecting something.

This club is a good example of what a true altruistic forum can be. We help each other out with information, advise and even exchange parts in the hopes that our fellow Z owners will also have a Z to admire. Is there a touch of selfishness there? Probably, whether it's recognition amongst our peers, or the hope that all Z's end up being desireable therefore evaluating their own or.....?

Damn Carl, I remeber reading other threads where other members comment on your speed of reply. I just seen Enrique post, and i'm sitting here getting my reply in oder. Bambikiller! I didn,t even see you logged on when I checked this thread out! I Agree, well said. Lets look at the West Coast Nats. Those of us that can go, go. Why? To see all the shinny Trick/stock Z's we can handle in a weekend. But how does this happen? MSA puts it on for "us" right? For themselves? For the other vendors? For everybody involved. The make PR/money, we see all the trick things we want up close and personal. We met the vendors/ each other. And if we are licky we might even save some coin. I saved about $50 -100 bucks last time. Still got fleeced. But We go anyway. We Still need something to do with OUR time and hard earned dough. When it's something like the MSA Z show it's all good. Right who doesn't love the crap out these cracker box cars HERE? But the rest of the world does other things with thier time and $. It's all good, all the time, everywhere. If it's not we wouldn't care if our beloved Z's ran or not. Don't know why this reply sounds the way it sorta does. It's Enrique's fault he kinda got deep there . :devious:
