Brake Lights

I had a similar situation with my '73 240 Z that took some time and detective work to diagnose. If I turn on the emergency flashers and then turn them off while the flasher relay is clicking "off", the brake lights stop working. If I catch it when the relay is closed and contacted, the lights work. You can hear the relay clicking on and off underneath the glovebox on the kick panel by the passengers footwell. Give it a try turning the flashers on and off, then testing your brake lights.

I might be able to fix my problem with a new relay for the flashers, but it hasn't really been a problem at this point.

Let me know if this fixes your situation

Carefully unplug the two wires that attach to the brake light switch. You'll have to kneel down and look up towards the top of the brake pedal. The switch is easy to remove if need be. Jump the two wires that connect to the switch. If the brake lights come on while the wires are jumped, the switch is at fault. Make sure that the switch isn't just stuck. I had that happen on my NX when I had it and simply sprayed around the button withe contact cleaner and worked it loose. If it turns out to be a bad switch Motorsports had them (about 10 bucks) and Victoria British has them (about 7 bucks) and I think Nissan still has them (25320-89910) but I don't know the price.

I thought about jumping the wires last night while i was at work, but haven't gotten to it yet. I ended up ordering one from pep boys for bout $10. So i'll end up replacing it anywho... $10 for another 33 years of brake light action! I will have to take some pictures of my ghetto fab brake light setup that i whipped up for about $10-15 so i wouldn't get pulled over! LOL Thanks for all the help everyone!
