January 15, 200421 yr comment_64349 Well our garage is just a standard two car garage. Me and dad used it to fix an old triumph 2.5 we have so its a good size.(it had a blown head gasgit). At the moment (as always) its full of bikes. (It does get hot but we just use a pedastool fan and a indoor fan stuck to the roof). We've had sugestions to put one of those whirly things on the roof. Apparently their really good at removing the hot air. Anyhoo... ive included a pic of our shed. It looks small in the pic. on the wall with the window , those shelves are about 1.5 meters from the wall. and a computer is on a desk in there.(like a mini office ) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9721-garage-design/?&page=2#findComment-64349 Share on other sites
January 15, 200421 yr Author comment_64376 Thanks for all of your input.I agree that a large number of power outlets is necessarry as is natural lighting. The garage will have one window facing into our yard and 2-3 clear panels in the roof. I plan to have a 'mezzanine' area which will be two thirds of the floor width. This will allow light through to floor level on one side of the garage and hopefully provide enough space under the roof to allow upright walking. The mezzanine will have a fold down ladder for access.I will not have a phone/data connection to the garage (it is a place of rest!) but radio/stereo is a good idea. I will have a cold water basin but no loo (bathroom)...Discovered that if your property has more than two then the local city council hikes up the rate$...and we already have two in the house.I will defintely paint the floor but am unsure about plastering the walls which will be brick. I kind of like the idea of a light garage with rustic walls but I think plaster would just make it too glary.I'll post some plans when I have them. Thanks again. January 15, 200421 yr comment_64388 Don't know what humidity you get in Perth but in Brisbane fans are a must on a humid day. Ceiling fans are cheap and don't take up any floor space. January 15, 200421 yr comment_64448 Hi Guys,I´ve just moved into a new house which has the garage in the basement. I can´t help you on sizing but I will give you a few comments : -I had the floor tiled so that it is completly flat & is easy to hose out or mop up. I have a pit which beats laying on your back for hours. The workshop is separate so that the cars stay clean when I´m producing dust & grime ! I made the workshop benches our of kitchen units, so I got cheap storage with lots of drawers. On top I fitted a thick plywood sheet with a stainless steel cover, so I can keep it nice & clean.I´ve a stereo in the garage & the workshop. Most importantly I´ve a full bathroom with washbasin, toilet & a shower so when I get dirty I can clean up before I annoy my wife !I´ll try to take a few photos & post them tomorrow. December 3, 200420 yr comment_104092 Just had to post this. May take awhile on dial-up (lots of pics). All it needs is a 240Z next to the Porsche.dream garage? December 3, 200420 yr comment_104095 Who needs a house after looking at that garage. I like the nice stainless cabinets. Man if I ever win the lottery, my Z's would rest in comfort like that porsche. Oh well Vicky Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9721-garage-design/?&page=2#findComment-104095 Share on other sites

March 25, 200520 yr comment_118412 Here's a garage design I'm considering for my house. I added 6' length to give more space on the ground floor for lawn equipment. The upper floor would be for storage and workshop. What do you guys think? Is that enough space on the ground floor or should I go even longer? Is 24' and absolute minimum for 2 cars side-by-side? I'd like to keep it as narrow as possible to keep the yard wide, but I can add length without too much trouble. I guess it just raises the cost somewhat. At this point I'm trying to decide on a design and put together a budget/estimate. When I can start on it depends on how much it'll cost. I'll probably do a lot of the work myself. Oh the shed shown on the black drawing is what my Z is in right now. With the engine stand, couple of shelves, lawnmower and other yard crap there not any space left to move (which is why I can't relaly work on it).
