Posted January 14, 200421 yr comment_64278 My '70 240Z has a dent in the floor on the left side. The dent bulges up into the cabin and is under the clutch pedal (my car is left hand drive). I thought that maybe a previous owner had hit a pot hole or ran over a rock. But I showed it to a guy and he told me his '72 240Z has that too and it was there when he bought the car brand new. He thinks the dent was caused when the car was shipped from Japan. Do you know if that is common? Do you have it on your Z? Thanks Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/ Share on other sites
January 14, 200421 yr comment_64279 Haven't noticed any particular dents in the floor on mine. I'll have to take a look. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/#findComment-64279 Share on other sites
January 14, 200421 yr comment_64280 I'm not aware of this dent. There is a hump the runs lengthwise right above the frame rails on either side. There are also some depressions in both pans that are probably for structural support. Do you have a picture? There are plenty of pictures in the galleries here of floorpans and floorpan rust repairs. Here's a good shot that shows the humps and depressions I was talking about:http://www.datsunzparts.com/FLOORS1B.JPG Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/#findComment-64280 Share on other sites

The only dents I've seen on Z floors have been caused by people using floor jacks where they shouldn't have used them. It would be difficult to get a good photo as it wouldn't show up well in a photo of the carpet. But it is a sizeable dent. I'll have to lift the car to get a good shot from underneath. :cross-eye Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/#findComment-64301 Share on other sites
January 14, 200421 yr comment_64313 I got those dents when I jack up my car and miss the pinch welds/forget there is nothing there to support the weight of the car. I think I've heard of this from other people too. January 15, 200421 yr comment_64368 I concur with Carl. More than likely a misplaced floor jack caused that dent, or hitting a concrete parking lot railroad tie.If it didn't affect the reinforcing channel under the floor, you should be able to pound it out with a sledge hammer. Hope this helpsEnrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/#findComment-64368 Share on other sites

Maybe so, but it seems odd that my friend's Z has the exact same dent and it was there the day he bought the car. I thought maybe it was a common occurrence; but maybe not.:cross-eye There's no damage to the stucture, just sheet metal. January 15, 200421 yr comment_64434 My cars floors well the drivers side floor was a bit beat up and the accelerator pedal had been cut because of it. When i got the floors repaired for rust they beat it down to how it should be and it looks pretty good but I never really had a great look before. The chassis rails are a bit beat up from hitting something underneath the car a PO is to blame but it only really bothers me when i look under the car and the car isn't really effected by it.When i strip the car and do a groud up resto in the future I will take care of it then.Till then I just put it out of mind. And it seems like it's most likely the cause of a misplaced jack so I am very careful where i place the jack when i lift my car these days a previous Z of mine got a bit bent underneath when i mis placed a jack but no worries now that car was written off.:disappoin Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/#findComment-64434 Share on other sites
January 15, 200421 yr comment_64465 As crazy as it sounds, it is such a common occurrence for the floor to buckle due to a misplaced jack that that is why you've heard from several members stating that that may be the cause of it. As to the similarity of your floor dent with a friend's car with the "same" or similar dent? Again, it is a COMMON occurrence.Next ask about Rust in the Floorpans, or in the bottom of the front fenders, or in the hatch area, or.... Get my drift?Good LuckEnrique Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9724-dent-in-floor-of-240z-do-you-have-that-too/#findComment-64465 Share on other sites
