I just installed a set of sk triple carbs, but the linkage for the gas pedeal is too long to be attached to the carb throttle. what do I do? I can't cut, is there any where I can buy a shorter linkage? and how much is it?

another thing I need is that since I just install my sk tripple cabs, (40mm) I need someone to tune them. can anyone give advice? I'm runing a 280 motor in a 73' 240. with 260 headers and 2.5 inch exhase piping. please help me out guys.

Dear fightyourself,

A man after my own heart! I've just installed triples myself, and I'm very happy with the result... when it's running! Unfortunately, it's too hot in summer where I am (Brisbane, Australia - and 40 degrees forecast for tomorrow!) to use the darn thing! My intake manifold sits too close to my exhaust headers, so the fuel gets heated and upsets the running of the car! But I digress... :cheeky:

When the triples were stuck on, the mechanics chopped my accelerator linkage and shortened it. It worked, but the carbs don't seem to quite return to their idle position (at least not fast enough).

I wish my mechanic had warned me (he has a habit of not informing me about the silly things he does!), because I would have told him "CHANGE IT TO A CABLE LINKAGE!!!" :stupid:

This is a popular conversion, whereby your rip out the push-rod linkage and replace it with a simple cable. The benefit is that you get smoother/better throttle response, and you don't have to butcher your "original" linkage set-up.

But... because I didn't do mine that way, I'm not sure where you can go to get such a linkage set-up. Perhaps MSA? You could even fabricate your own I guess? :ermm:

Good luck!

P.S: I'm due to post photos of my new triples soon.

moyest,

Add another return spring from the top portion of the"bell crank" mounted on firewall to a home made tab mounted behind the mounting point of linkage (close to firewall at end of shaft heading toward carbies).

I'll try to attach a file that (if you blow it up bigger) shows what I'm talking about. The added spring is gold collored. My throttle is very firm and responsive, and the carbies shut down immediately. Also check that long throttle shaft moves freely. Drop the three links to carbs and the link to bell crank. Long shaft should not bind.

I have triple Webers, and am looking at replacing the linkage both on the firewall (too sloppy), and on my cannon manifold.

For the gas pedal to firewall, I came across this

Optional Cable Linkage Conversion for either manifold.

Eliminates the mechanical linkage from the pedal to the carb linkage. Add $75.00 to kit price

I have no idea how it works, but if you could just pull and save the stock linkage, it might be worth a try.
