Do we need a separate section to discuss other Datsun Cars like the 240K?

There is no big issue here - every topic in the "Action in the Forums" section has its home under an appropriate Forums folder. All we are really talking about is creating a new folder alongside all of the other folders that will simply be named "Other Datsuns" or "Skylines et al"... Not banishing the skyline brigade to another website!

Its a no-brainer: valid topic=logical forum home. At least that way we will be able to search for skyline-related posts a little more easily.

Just do it.

Exactly.

I'm not telling all you skyline owners to wizz off somewhere else, quite the opposite it would give you a place to post. I like reading about other datsuns, and having a separate forum on this website would allow me to easily find threads about 240K's, 1200 coupes, and 1600's instead of them getting lost in the thousands of posts about Z cars.

So as well as having Z discussions, Regional Forums, etc, you would also have Other Datun Discussions for non Z related chit chat.

This was inspired by a 240K owner asking where they could get chrome moulding for thier car, without stating they owned a 240K, and people had started responding assuming they had an S30. I looked in their gallery and saw they had a 240K.

My point exactly. This IS a Z site and there are people who don't specifiy what Z model (or other model) they have when they post. If you are going to post on ANY model (Z, K, C, or whatever) it is up to YOU to let people know what the heck you are talking about. If you don't specify what you are talking about (model specific) that is your problem and a spearate forum for "Z cousins" isn't going to help. It's up to the individual poster to ask the right question including the discription of what model he/she's talking about. This is common sense.

IMHO if it's done, it should not be named "Other Datsuns" as I believe that WILL encourage a free-for-all, and a dilution of the focus of the site.

Are there Capris in Mustang clubs?

Are there Chevelles in Goat clubs?

Are there 'Cudas in Challenger clubs?

Are there G35s in 350Z clubs?

Or, perhaps more accurately, in terms of lineage...

Are there Escorts in Focus clubs?

Are there K-cars in PT Cruiser clubs?

Are there Loti in DeLorean or Mr. 2 clubs?

Are there Brats in WRX clubs?

Are there Beetles in Porsche clubs?

Are there Fox's in S4 clubs?

Are there 240Zs in S14 clubs?

Exist in a sidebar or go away.

This is not ClassicDatsunCars.com. I love you all, but just stating the facts. This is ClassicZCars. Do we enjoy reading about the 240K and various Skylines? Sure, quite a few of us do--myself included. Do you belong? Probably not. Notice how many 510's and roadsters are here? Now THOSE are the usual 'outsider' populace of a Z site. Funny we don't have any...save Vic and Mike. Even if you create your own forum here, the way this site is formatted, it will not matter. How many times have you read something on a thread only to discover (only of you are paying attention) it is on the Australian club forum? How many time have you read something so imbecilic you assumed you were browsing 'Funnybone' only to look up and discover you were in 'Brakes and Shocks'? It won't matter if they have their own forum. The posts will still show up on the front page and in the latest 100 and that is how most of us surf. Maybe we need headers like the Home-site:

(240K) Re: Fat Fenders and Bleeding Nipples

(280ZX) Re: My cool Chuck Norris Hood

(Sub/Dom) Re: your master cylinder

(MBLA) Re: Are these too fat?

(240z) Conspiracy theories on handbrake placement

...so the people who are too friggin stupid to know better can drool their way down the posts selecting what they want to read and reply (inserting their favorite vendor, of course) to.

Thanks for ruining a perfectly good poll--that I didn't start, for once.

This site opens with "Welcome to the biggest club dedicated to the CLASSIC Datsun Zcars (240Z, 260Z, & 280Z)." We do, however, spend a lot of time discusssing 'Z cousins' as Bambikiller240 puts it. Most notably, the 280ZX. That's okay. My interest in Datsuns covers more that Zcars as you'd probably guess noting my avatar. I don't mind reading about the Skyline, etc. as it helps to broaden my general Datsun knowledge. I don't personally post anything here about my 810 or my 320 because I do see this as a Z site. If something comes through about those vehicles I might offer my $.02. We once had a thread on the 810 Sports Coupe last summer when Victor Laury showed interest in buying one. I responded to it. This is my Z site. I like it fine the way it is. When I'm looking for information on the aforementioned 'other Datsuns' I look elsewhere.

Hi guys... good topic. At least it isn't the famous "should we allow ZX posts in here" topic..

I'm all for a "other datsun" forum if it will be used. The only thing I don't like is creating something based on an idea and then seeing it never get used.

We own this server, so, if you guys want to create even a totally separate website, I can do it. Of course, whatever happens I will need help with either a forum moderator or a site facilitator.

I suggest a forum to start with... if the demand increases we can move it out to a different website.

How about a tab on the home page to other datsuns and their forums.

By utilising this method we can all access info about our cousins without jamming up the Classic Z page?

I totally agree that reading about different models and the similarities to Classic s 30's is interesting, however, a line needs to be drawn somewhere before the main page becomes to fractured.
