So the "apparent life expectancy" that you are referring to is somehwat suspicious. I have encountered 2nd gen. RX7's with almost 300,000 miles on the original drivetrain. The only reason those cars experience engine mishaps result from substandard maintenance habits as with most cars.

With the Crossfire you are benefitting from the merger with Daimler as it uses the SLK's underpinnings with only a 215hp V6 to get the job done. The price is starting at almost $40,000 and delaers in the Washington area have bunches of them sitting on the lot. If Chrysler/Dodge wanted to make a splash why not build the Dodge Razor concept car with 240hp and low curb weight and a price of $15,000! Now that would make a dent in 350Z sales!

Consider yourself lucky with your rotary reliability! Let it be kown that the car I had came complete with maintenence records, and I continued with the 3k mile oil changes, coolant flushes, yadda yadda...

I did make the mistake of not researching 2nd gen RX reliability. They are KNOWN to have issues with the oil feedline to the rotors. To the point that a lot of owners actually run a mixture of fuel and oil in the gas tank to ensure rotor lubrication! My sources assure me that it is perfectly normal for well-maintained rotarys to expire (apex seal failure) around 100k miles.

Also, MOST piston engines will live practically forever with little maintenence beyond ensuring they're not run out of oil or run hot.

The Razor would be cool! If it weren't so durned ugly. The Crossfire just looks great (except the chrome windshield surround), way cooler'n the 350Z, I think. Too expensive, yes. But so is the 350Z. I still can't comprehend why anyone wouldn't opt for the G35 coupe instead.

What'd be cool would be if we could get the Smart Coupe and/or Roadster. Those things are SWEET! Instead we're getting a Smart SUV (groan).

The introduction of our marvelous Z car was the demise of many cars in the 70's. Believe it or not the Z nearly put Triumph out of business. Jag sales declined. The Opel never really took off. This is all based on price, performance and reliability. As stated by many professional auto enthusiasts the Z car (240Z) is one of the 10 most important cars in automotive history. As we all know the Z-Car blew many auto manufacturers away. There's not one car show that I go to that someone doesn't come up to me and say that the Z car was all the rage in the 70's.

Here is a back view of the 350 ZG. I dont have a picture of the front but I have seen it and its horrible. But the rear in my opinion is very nice. Dont think its a factory Nissan ZG but one made by Central 21

I am still waiting for the SUV craze to go away as well. That Smart Roadster would be just the ticket for around town driving.

A friend of mine recently bought a G35 coupe w/ 6MT and I recently went for a ride in it. If it didn't have the fussy dashboard details that Infiniti's are known for and the leather seats which feel like there is a phone book mounted under them it wouldn;t be so bad. With my 6'1" height the seat could never be low enough in the car for my tastes. The beltline doesn't seem as high as the 350Z becuase of the "booster seat" but it wasn't my taste. I couldn't justify the asking price either. The joke is that the Infiniti dealer will annoy you with customer care whilst the Nissan dealer doesn't want to hear about a "feathering tire" or a "grease mark" on the windows.

I wasn't aware of the gas tank mixture but, I do remember that under the hood of the 2nd gen. there was a small bottle which would inject coolant for cold weather starting. On the two 2nd gen. cars that I owned that bottle never had to be replenished. Curious to see if Mazda will continue to pursue the Rotary sportscar which should give the Z and other a run for the money as the RX8 was a bit of a disappointment. Who knows we may have a "Samurai Shootout" if Toyota makes good on bringing a Supra to market.

I recently saw a video on the 350Z competing against the Corvette, S2000, M3, and the Boxter. The outcome of the race was the 350Z taking first place. The more powerful M3 could not catch up with the Z on the turns. The New Z is truly a great sports car and will prove with time that its worthy of being the new Z. I have a TWINTURBO'S Z and have competed against 350Z's and was amazed on how it would pull away in third gear. I recommend people to go and test drive the car to see its capabilities. I my opinion Nissan did it again and created on of the best sports cars alive.

Haven't actually sat in a G35. One thing I do love about the 350Z is the SEAT. LOVE that thing! To me it is already too high, though, so I'm sure I'd hate the G35's driving position. Too-high seat is one reason I don't have a 4-door E36 M3, that along with too-light steering.

FWIW, I think the new Supra is DEAD. At least for the U.S. And I'm sure Mazda's not to eager to launch a new RX-7 what with RX-8s languishing at dealerships. That engine WOULD be the bomb in a sub-2400 lb. sports car. With the 3000 lb. RX-8 (not bad for a 4-door sport coupe), you get 95mph 1/4 mile performance with sub 20mpg mileage. Who's gonna buy THAT?

With equal-talent drivers, no way the 350Z will hang with a Corvette. S2000 and Boxster are a different story, but I still like both those cars better. The latest M3 is yet another step in the WRONG direction if you ask me. 3600 lb.? Forget it.

Anyhoo, none of those cars give me any worries at the track:)
