I am having MAJOR problems getting the nozzles out of an SU carb. The carbs are the ones with the large flat mixture nut that has the metal stop mounted to a wide metal tab. There is absolutely no movement in the nozzles (no wonder the car never started!) and they don't budge at all.

The other set of carbs I replaced the nozzles in were a dream to work on; loosened a screw, remove the fuel line and the nozzle slipped right out. Not these babies, they aren't going ANYWHERE, up OR down.

Am I missing a step? Any idea on how to get the nozzles out?

If you removed the screw which attaches the choke lever to the bottom of the nozzle, it should just about drop out. If you've done that, I'm sure the above statment isn't much help. Is there any indication that some misguided P.O. has glued the nozzles into the nozzle guide tubes?

Are these still one the car or on your work bench?

Have you seen the exploded views on the ztherapy.com site?

I have this really sinking feeling that something was used to fix the nozzles in place. I've tried using a punch from the top to drive the nozzle out, but it wouldn't budge. There is absolutely no connection from the nozzle to the carb, and I can't even rotate it. I think I'm just going to take it to a machine shop and see if they can maybe drill it out.

I'd sure hate to a) ruin the nozzle bases for core and ruin the carbs, but at least I now know why we could never get the Z to start

I think drilling them out would be taking it to the extreme. I seriously doubt that someone would have done this intentionally. It's more likely that years of crud have simply caused them to stick and a little more persuasion is needed. I would first try spaying them thoroughly with carb cleaner and if that doesn't work I'd try something a little more effective like PB Blaster.

We rebuild the bases with new nozzles. If you like to send them to us we can probably get them out w/o destroying them and just charge you for a set of new nozzles.

sorry to bring old thread back, didn't want to make a post for this. I will be ordering the rebuilt kit for Ztherapy, but what are the nozzles that I need for refund?, my mechanic does not speak english, how do they look like or anyone as a pic? thx guys

With the Tune up kit you will get the JUST SUs video which will explain everything. You don't need to send the nozzles in ahead of time.

Go to the auto parts store and get a gallon can of carb cleaner. Drop the carb pieces (no plastic) into the can a give it a soak for several hours. If crud is holding the nozzle in the solvent will soften it enough to easily remove. I've done this the get cemented adjustment screws out of Dellorto's with ease.
