It looks like most of our members are balanced between ownership of the 1971 and 1972 Zcar. Have you voted on this survey yet? Please vote even if you don't own a Z. We are all watching this survey with great interest!

You can vote on the main page. Surveys are located on the right side menu bar. You might need to scroll down to see the survey completely.

Things have changed! It now looks like '72 and '73 ownership is higher than anyone else. But, it looks like we've got a LOT of members that own cars between '71 and '73.

Ok, got CanTechZ and Brandy's in there. File attached.

CanTechZ - do you have any pics of your car? I am trying to go the full resto route (or maybe better stated "refresh"), and I wanted to see some reference photos. Mine is a 1972, so there are some differences, but I wanted to get an idea of some things (as well as inspiration). You can PM me if you'd prefer.

Z VIN NUMBERS.xls

Mine is HLS30 20390 build date 1/71.

One of the last series ones.

Thanks to those who put the info into a spreadsheet!

Cool spreadsheet!

But, WOW! As many member s as we have here on this site and we only have just barely over 100 listed? What gives guys/gals?

rdefabri, any chance you also break the vehicles down by build date (if that info was given)? I also have one of the last few Series I cars made in Jan. of '71 and it would interesting to see the breakdown of individual cars by months.

kmack,

Unfortunately, as few members as I could capture in the spreadsheet, even fewer provided build dates (as opposed to title date).

It wouldn't take much if we started a thread for me to add it, but I'd prefer to do it from scratch rather than poring through multiple threads

See the VIN # thread for more up to date spreadsheet updates.

Any pics of it? How does it run?

I passed schooling for an SCCA license but never had them sign off on it. I was told they would approve if I went back, but I couldn't generate the scratch to go racing, I was kind of married to going Formula Continental or Formula Ford.

I have pics but don't know how to post them here.

Just my opinion but I would shy away from formula cars. Major dollars to stay competitive, and they are delicate. Plus, formula guys sometimes run over each other's heads, thinking they are Mario. Spec-Miata looks similar to me in that way. The z-car is in E-prod and ITS in the SCCA. You might want to look at renting a car to get a feel for a particular class. Renting a car is about 1200 per weekend. Figure on spending close to a grand per each race weekend the first year on your own car. You'll spend $770 a weekend on a set of tires until you get a car dialed in right. And with Hoosiers for example, they last longer if you get a heat cycle on a set and then let them sit for at least a few days. So, you'd have to have a few extra sets of wheels and spend a test day just cycling tires. Once my car was set up properly, I got a few weekends from a set, instead of sometimes going thru a set and a half per weekend. Driving technique helps here too, if you get all your braking done in a straight line (trail braking is for formula cars) and avoid flat-spotting, you can keep from ruining tires. I ran a full season (6 races in Pro-IT) for under 2000 one year.
