It looks like most of our members are balanced between ownership of the 1971 and 1972 Zcar. Have you voted on this survey yet? Please vote even if you don't own a Z. We are all watching this survey with great interest!

Things have changed! It now looks like '72 and '73 ownership is higher than anyone else. But, it looks like we've got a LOT of members that own cars between '71 and '73.

For the record even though I own a 72 had a 73. My perfect Z would be a 69 build 70 registered 240z. Actually my perfect Z would be a 432R but that's another post.

I'm a sucker for the hatch vents and dash differences. Also the fact that it's lighter and has a higher comp cylinder head also interests me.

The downside no stowage compartments behind the seats. Can you guys tell me if your 70-71 has these or not????

Gavin,

I have a '71 240Z (Series I) with a build date of Jan. 1971. I do not have the storage bins, just the plastic covers behind the seat. The only disadvantage to these (that I can tell) is that getting to the jack is a little tough because the seats do not fold forward. But then again how times do you have a flat?

I'm with you though, I like the different qtr emblems (240Z) and the rear hatch vents. Helps keep it from "looking" like any other 70's model Z.

Sapruns,

Based on the fact that you have the storage compartsments in the rear deck, then you should have a Series II 240Z.

The first year 240's (70 models) and the first few months of the '71 models were Series I cars. January of '71 appears to be the crossover point for Nissan. There have been a few discussions here awhile back that can give good descriptions on what was changed from the Series I cars to the Series II cars.

Basically, if you have

- the cabin air vents on the hatch (instead of behind the qtr windows),

- plastic tool covers behind the seats (instead of the tool storage bins in the rear deck),

- cigarette lighter in the console (instead of in the dash),

- choke lever in the center of the console (instead of on the side)

then you most likely have a Series I car.
