mushupork5 Posted January 23, 2004 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2004 as i was cruising on the freeway last night i heard a pop and smoke started coming out in all directions. after pulling over to a nearby parking lot and letting the smoke stop i had a tow truck take my car to my z mechanic. after a quick diagnosis, i blew a hole in the engine. so in order to get back on the road i need a new block. having dropped too much money into this car over the short year and 1 month that i have had it, i am going to retire this car to parts. a new head gasket, transmission seal, throw out bearing, and pressure plate, fuel pump, wiring harness, battery, starter, alternator and mayn other things have seen my z car recently. as a poor high school student i don't know what to do. its not worth the money (that i don't have) to fix a problamatic car so i guess im looking for another z car that is cheap, a daily driver, and has very little rust (that was the only good things about that z) but if anyone out there wants to help let me know, i need all that i can get. seerex Posted January 23, 2004 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2004 if yours is a rust free one I would try and find a used motor and put it in yourself , not sure how mechanical you are but just my 2 cents
mushupork5 Posted January 23, 2004 Author Share #3 Posted January 23, 2004 its got some slight rust on the driver floor pan and some bubbles (not very many) on the quarters, but the car has been problamatic from the start, i think im better off using it as a parts car and an interior stripper
kyteler Posted January 24, 2004 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2004 Well, if there's a hole in your block, a new block may be the lease in life the car needs. I don't know, it just seems a shame to retire a car like the Z
Zrush Posted January 24, 2004 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2004 I agree with kyteler, It's a shame you want to part the car out. An early gen Z car that isn't a basket case as far as the body is concerned, is a rare find. It's too bad you don't live closer to Florida, I have a 78 280Z with a good motor, trans. and R200 rear. If you are interested in these parts , send me a message. The only thing that I would do to the motor is a quick re-build on it, just to re-fresh it. It's an EFI and the harness is OK but might want to change injector ends. Kinda a cheap repair. Real sorry to hear about your loss, but don't give up just yet there might be some others that could help out. Just hate like hell to see the car laid to rest.
