Posted January 23, 200421 yr comment_65553 This morning, I had to send away a courier package.. dum de doo, driving along, as one does, turn around the corner and what's that I see? A bright red Datsun 240Z. I punch the gas, quickly throw the courier parcel to the guy then wing it around and park near the 240Z, get out of my car and have a look around the car as the owner and another guy are talking about things a couple of feet from the car. I eagerly await conversation, I ask the man who appears to be the owner (deduced by conversation listening) whether he mind if I quickly rush home and grab my camera, he says, OK. Quickly I scurry back to my 240K, fire her up and scream away back to the house to get the camera, grab the camera quickly mutter a few breaths of excitement to my brother and quickly head back to the 240Z. I get there, but this time I pull up right behind the 240Z instead, as I get out of the car with the camera, the guy who wasn't the owner of the car states, "That's a ****en 240K" we converse for a while I pop the hood so he can compare the K to the Z engine and I potter off to take some pictures of aforementioned red 240Z, I get some good shots of it, considering the position of the freakin sun and then ask if I can pop the hood to take some pictures of the engine, he states "It's a bit scruffy in there" I tell him I don't mind, I pop the hood and the ****en valve cover glistens like the sun at me, I promptly inform him that his engine bay look a billion times cleaner than mine at which point he voices his disgust over the engine bay being black instead of body colour. I concur and take some more pictures. Then I decided to check out the engine plate. 901, number 901... I inform him that's pretty freakin cool. I decided to tell him about the classiczcars website he handed me his business card and now I just have to email him with the URL etc. It turns out this guy (his name is Russell) own 2 240Z cars, the red one and a race one. **** me. 2 I've never seen before, then I find out the other guy he was talking to ALSO owns 2 240Z cars. Russell pulled out a magazine image of what he thought was his dream Z, which was a G-nose article, I explain what I've picked up from this site about the G-nose and he seems impressed, so I'll hopefully be corresponding with him via email shortly. The other guy, who I neglected to get the name of :stupid: has invited me to come check out his cars at his house, he also... as it turns out, owns a 1 lady owner original Datsun 1600 with bugger all K's on it etc. SO later this afternoon I'll be going there to see him and his cars. He also gave me the name of a guy who's brother used to own a 240K so I can ring to find out where it is, he also reeled off 12 other Z's he knows of around the area!! FAR OUT! WHAT A DAY! :D I'll attach a few pics of the Red 240Z that caught my eye. January 23, 200421 yr comment_65580 kyteler,I can understand your excitement. What a beautiful 240Z! And he's got TWO of them. Does that mean he could "loan" you one occasionally for the weekend? That'd be cool. Also, you seem to know your way around a camera. Nice shots. I look forward to see more!Rob Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9857-my-best-datsun-day/#findComment-65580 Share on other sites

January 24, 200421 yr Author comment_65599 Well, this afternoon, I went to the other guys house, his name is Terry. After finding out the other guys Red 240Z was number 908 he checked his when he got home, one of them is eight hundred and something and the other is in the ten thousands. Anyway, I've got some more pics that I'll put up later, I might just put his ones in my gallery. He wants me to find out some stuff for him and try source some Datsun 1600 Tail-lights and a few other things including rear arch skins for a 240Z, so if anyone can help, I'd be most appreciative. He's not very internet savvy so chances are you won't see him on here, but he's going to give me a ring next time he takes one of his 240Z's out, to go for a ride. SO chances are I'll be around his cars every now and then. He seemed impressed with all the tid-bits of information I reeled out, so I guess I have you guys to thank for that I'll try remember to upload the other pics tonight. He's going to make 1 really decent 240Z from the two cars he has and one good one. They could both easily be on the road now as they're both structurally sound except one just hasn't run in a while. As I said before he has an orange one I think the paint code was "908" or "910" or something like that and the other one is a metallic tan, but it's been resprayed that colour it's true colour is actually that light metallicy green, the same colour as "halz" car. You can see the green in the engine bay where the other paint has flaked off. We talked for a while and he remembered his first 240Z that he bought still lives in Southland somewhere which mean there's 13 in the area that he knows of, not a bad day considering yesterday I only thought there was 1. January 24, 200421 yr comment_65626 What up with his badges being the wrong way around?I have a set of those exact same mags, got a side on pic of the car. I wanna see what they look like. I have a choice of 2 sets of mags at the moment.Check out the hand throttle!:classic: Maybe Terry will let you have the other zed cheap after he's taken off all the good bits. January 24, 200421 yr comment_65627 P.S. Does that red one has 260z front fenders?Aussie 240z didnt need the in fender indicators, just the lower one below the bumber was enough. Whats the story with NZ cars. Thought they would be be pretty much the same.USA 240z had front indicators and rear side markers. January 24, 200421 yr Author comment_65642 Mr. CYeah, Terry and I were talking about how Russell's car seemed to have a few things a bit odd.We think maybe it's had fender replacements and then had the sidemarkers put in as perhaps there were holes there. Also, it has flat-top SU's, that's just plain wrong.I'm going to email him (Russell) today and tell him the things that don't add-up.Tell me... those "240Z" C-pillar emblems, are they the right kind to be on a '71?And I hadn't noticed the badges being on the wrong way, :stupid: I'll tell him about that too, someone must have played around with the car not worried about originality I expect. January 24, 200421 yr comment_65654 The Zed you are talking about (what a great paint job) could very well have been delivered in Australia or anywhere else with those indicators in the guards because of the early build. Some Zeds in that series where delivered to Australia with both front and rear guard lights, just like the HLS version for the states.my 2cSteve:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9857-my-best-datsun-day/#findComment-65654 Share on other sites

Mr. C, I've attached the only side-ish pic I took, hopefully it's what you're after, if it isn't I'm sure I'll be seeing it (the 240Z) again and I'll take some more pictures to suit your needs. Originally posted by sjcurtisSome Zeds in that series where delivered to Australia with both front and rear guard lights, just like the HLS version for the states. sjcurtis, Doesn't it seem odd then that they're only on the front? Hopefully it is all just how it came in as I'm sure that Russell will feel better about it if it is, I know I would, hell, who am I kidding? I'd be stoked to have any 240Z no matter how many different bits it had on it LOL Oh, and Mr. C when I was talking to Terry, I said to him that once he's put his good car together out of the two he has, I'd be interested in the not so good one that would be the result of parts swapping :classic: it's probably a few years off and who knows, by then I may actually be able to afford it. January 24, 200421 yr comment_65660 As far as front guard lights go I think what you see in the picture, is probably the most common. I have a late 71 with C pillar vents and even it was delivered with front Guard Lights. The rare one are the front and rear guard lights on an export right hand drive, not sure when they dropped guard indicator lights for Australia delivery I will check( probably 72).CheersSteve:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9857-my-best-datsun-day/#findComment-65660 Share on other sites
