I need some opinions on what ot ask...

for my Z when I sell it? I need some honest opinions...not "45 dollars heehee"! What is a fair price for these cars? I checked NADA.com and it says high retail is over $8K! Is this for real? My car is a nice Z. Nicer than most Z's I see in my town. I was thinking around 5000 would be a good place to start. I have more than that in it but I know you dont always get your money back on cars like these...so I am not trying. I got too many toys and not enough money! Besides, school is too demanding on the finances and I dont want to end up with 50K of loans to go along with my piece of paper! Any advice is appreciated.

Perhaps you could get it professionally appraised. That would certainly help convince the buyer that the car is worth what you're asking. It is a tough question because the range of values on these cars is so great depending on condition, location, originality, low VIN, etc.

Aaron it's like Mike stated. Condition is the key. You must step back and look at the car from a byers stand point . What is the body like is it stock or is there a sun roof or wales tail installed. Is there ANY body damage ? When you look inside are there any rips or tears in the seats or door pannels. When you pull up the carpets in the foot wells and see the bare floot is it rusty? What shape is the dash in are there any cracks ? Is all the glass clear or is it starting to fogg along any of the edges ? Are there any bumps or bubbles in the paint , along the bottom of the front fender just forward of the doors ? Is the chrome in good shape , no visable rust or dents ? What wheels are on the car mags , or what and tires are they just street tires or performance rated ? Is the trans stock 4 speed manual , later model 5 speed or an automatic ? Engine compartment, look under the battery tray at the inner fender and the frame below the batt. , is there ANY rust? Is the engine stock and has it been rebuilt or modified ? If so what was done and how many miles back and who did the work? Has the car been repainted , is the engine bay a different color than the rest of the car? Is the engine bay clean , or dirty? Pull the dip stick is the oil clear or black, if an auto trans is the oil clear and odor free? Start at $12k for new cond and start deducting. I could go on but must be breef here good luck .Gary

Thanks for the coments guys. I realized there really is no answer but I wondered what everyones opinion on what they would pay for a car in some given condition. My car is very clean. The dash had no cracks in it till I brought it to AZ. Now there are 3 or 4 cracks in the center area. Engine is rebuilt w/ about 15k. All suspension is new w/poly bushings. Carpet is new. Toyota front brakes. The only rust spots on the car are under the gas door(about 2-3 spots smaller than a dime) and one spot in the trunk area where they always seem to get it which was "treated" before I painted it but it still looks like arse. I always wanted to replace that area but was going to have to wait for the future. It is not continuing to rust but it definitely shows the damage. Paint is original color. There is minimal surface rust under the battery. Lots o new engine parts(fuel injectors, sensors, radiator, etc) I think my car is pretty damn nice really. It is 20+ years old and has the squeaks to prove it but over all it is very nice. Ugly wheels too! Always wanted to get panasports but...you know...$$ I may do like Mike said and get an appraisal...though that is not a guarantee fair price either. I guess it boils down to who is looking for what.
