Sports car coming: Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan, confirms the automaker's high-performance, Porsche 911-like sports car called the Skyline GT-R will be sold in the U.S. after it is unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show.

Asked why so long a wait, he replied, "Because we want it to be exceptional, with a lot of performance at a reasonable price."

Nissan sells a car called Skyline in Japan that's related to the Infiniti G35 sold in the U.S., but the GT-R that was sold in Japan until a few years ago was off a platform of its own not related to that of the G35.

Nissan said no decision has been made on what platform the new GT-R will be based or whether it will be a Nissan or an Infiniti. But it will be an icon like the Nissan Z-Car.

You can't get the one that it's referring to now, no-one can, it hasn't been released yet.

The GT-R is no longer going to be part of the Skyline range as such, it'll be it's own vehicle ie. there'll be Skylines then there'll be GT-R, at least... that's the rumour.

I don't think they've decided completely on the powerplant yet and if they have I don't think they've released the data.

It's a very anticipated machine, believe me. :D

To be honest, it doesn't look fantastically promising but it does look aggresive like a GTR should.

I think they should remove the long lights that travel up the bonnett and have lights more similar to the R34.

Have a look for yourself. :classic:

Those concept pictures are very old. I had newer shots somewhere but alas computer problems wiped my hard drive... anyway, it was meant to be released at Tokyo this year but wasnt - I doubt it will look very similar to that concept (at the front anyway).

I wouldn't hold your breath hoping for the RB26Dett to be firmly secured under the bonnet, or any turbo 6.

A lightweight V8 is the more likely option, aiming it at competing with things like the Mustang and the Vette on the sales front.

Still, sick car.

Sources say it wil be a 3.2 litre twin turbo V6, based on the same engine as the 350Z...

And the only reason the car is taking so long (2007) to be shown at a motor show is because the boss doesn't like the look of it. So hopefully it'll look better than ANY of the concept sketches or that turd of a prototype.

I hope Nissan remembers that the name SKYLINE GT-R only goes on sport - sedans of the highest caliber and is the true flagship of their fleet, meant to compete anything the other market builds.

They've got quite a lineage to top. We are all hoing to see a true progression from the BNR34. Anything less will be a mockery of this rare and distintive title.

Rebadging a G35C just wont do.

I remember us saying the same thing about the re-introduction of the Z. But the 350Z is no way representative of our cherished Z's. Nissan will probably butcher the car with sharp angles like all the new cars seem to have. 2007, who the hell knows what it will have for a motor. We can only hope........I guess.
