Posted January 27, 200421 yr comment_65989 I just had my 240 resprayed and I'm looking at putting the bumpers back on. Are there any sorts of rubber grommets that sit between the irons and the bodywork? There seemed to be some sort of old rubber there, but over time it appears to have deteriorated and was kinda scrappy and unuseable. Without anything there I would think that the bumper irons may damage the bodywork.Anyone know? January 27, 200421 yr comment_65996 I don't know if HS30 models in Australia are different but my 240Z has rubber pieces only at the ends of the front and rear bumpers where they meet the side body of the car. This is to protect the paint. I'm not aware of anything like this where the main rear brackets mount to the body or where the front backets mount inside the grille area. January 27, 200421 yr comment_66068 The front bumper on my 71 has steel bushes between the bosy and bumper side mounts. Not too sure of they should be there. I'll be putting some rubber in there for sure...it all helps. January 27, 200421 yr comment_66120 When I put my new bumpers on , I used some rubber insulators sold by MSA, for $14.95 each. They slip over the end of the bracket that mounts up to the body. They were definitely worth it. Not sure what is available over there though.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9914-bumper-question/#findComment-66120 Share on other sites

January 28, 200421 yr comment_66169 Originally posted by Gee I know it's asking a lot, but any chance of a photo Marty? Is that your blue zed? Nice.... I don't know about Marty but it's not really possible to get a good picture of this piece without taking the bumper off. It's just a very small piece of rubber that goes over each bracket at the ends of the bumper. It only covers the small "ear" or "tab" where the bolt goes through; the bolt actually goes through the rubber and the metal. Attached is an attempted picture from the bottom side looking up at the rear bumper end. January 28, 200421 yr comment_66170 Check Banzai website for photos of both the front and rear bumper bar rubber insulators (www.zzxdatsun.com).Note that these arent available here in Australia (I have asked Nissan). I reused the rears on my car and made a substitute from an exhaust hanger strap for the fronts. The hanger strap came with the holes prepunched and I just cut it to size using a hacksaw. You could make substitute rears out of bicycle inner tube. Cut it to length and make a hole and you will have a hollow piece to slip over the rear bracket (side) similar to the existing.I also made some rubber pieces for the rear brackets (rear) to protect the paint.Dont mount your front bar without these rubber insulators. Atleast on my car the bumper edge would have damaged the paint.Hope this helps you out.Regards Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9914-bumper-question/#findComment-66170 Share on other sites
January 28, 200421 yr Author comment_66176 Thanks - the old ones didn't look anything like that (after 30 years!). Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9914-bumper-question/#findComment-66176 Share on other sites

January 28, 200421 yr comment_66253 Mike is right. That spot is very hard to photograph. Check out the Banzai site. They have them cheaper than MSA. The inner tube idea is pretty good though. That should do the trick.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/9914-bumper-question/#findComment-66253 Share on other sites
