Paint Color

Ok, that's 2 that make me look like a fool. I've probably been under the hood or 40 or 50 Z-cars and these are the first two that I've seen with the paint code sticker not on the drivers side.

Guess we need to find someone who has been under the hood of more than I have.

As best I recall my 73 was in the same location as the photo. There was also a sticker on the inside of the hood (same side) I thinkit had the car weight and other info on it.No more calls we have a winner!.In the haynes book about page three it shows an artist drawing of the photo we are looking at.XYZ's sticker location is correct.Or haynes drew his car as the model.

Hi Everyone. 2 many, no offense taken. I honestly don't know where that sticker should go. I've been under the hood of exactly one Z, mine, so I have nothing to compare. I actually am surprised there is a specific spot for that sticker. I would think if it makes it into the engine compartment where it's visible then it's purpose has been served. I do know that the history I was given on my car leads me to the conclusion that it has never been repainted. I'm owner #3 and the second owner new quite a bit about owner #1's history with the car. Anyway, I'm content with my paint job (for now) so it no biggy for me. I thought I could help Ed by posting the picture as a reference and I may have muddled the situation further. I'm certainly no expert. I still believe it's worth contacting Nissan to see if you can get touchup kits for the color in question and seeing if it's what you want. :)

I'll admit I was wrong on this one. But I think I know why, I've been looking at mostly early cars (pre 73). I guess they decided to change the location after 72, since I'm quite sure they were all on the drivers side.

XYZ, if your car has never been painted I'd have to say that the sun has faded it enough to make it look like the 918 orange. Personally, I have never seen a 110 red car up close, only in pictures. My 71 was 918 but I'm going to re-paint it in 110 red since I'm not a big fan of orange (out of 7 cars I have owned only two were not originally orange). I guess the 110 isn't as dark as I thought it was.

O.K. Guys, I hope we can conclude that the paint sticker can go on both sides because my 10/73 Z has it on the passenger side too. Is it my imagination or does Socalz Z and Xyz Z look about the same color? I'm not sure maybe Xyz is a little darker?

My 71 has it on the passenger side, unfortunately it has been wiped clean by some PO and I can't tell you if it's upside down or not.

Months ago, I vaguely remember running into a reference about someone that reproduces these and the other stickers for folks wanting that OEM / Concours look. Anyone know whom / where?

My first ride was in a 71 Burnt Orange Z. A friend took me for a quick ride in the country. We were going down an asphalt 2 lane road with a kid on a motor scooter in the left lane a few hundred yards ahead of us. He was going in the same direction as we were. As we were about to pass him on the right, my friend tooted his horn as a warning and the kid cut in front of us. To avoid him, we cut to the right into a ditch and the car rolled over and landed on all 4 tires. Luckily we both had our seat belts on and neither of us was injured, other than the glass that blew out the side window shreded my right elbow. I had to have one a bought a used 72 shortly there after. That was in 1975.

Hi guys,

I like to attach a picture of a look a like paint code sticker.

It’s from an original brochure. There’s not much to see but it’s a sticker at the place which you all spoke about.

Regards,

Guus
